Okay, so I'm discovering things about WinXP that everybody already knew but that are new to me. So, that's another. I've just discovered this stuff about changing skins of WinXP and I'm amazed.... My desktop looks so pretty, I'm in love with WinXP http://www.viol.net/nolf/Meu_Windows_XP_nos_EUA.jpg
The guy that did this skin is really a pro!

Actually, I would argue that that skin is messy. Edges and corners end abruptly and don't match up. Looks like they didn't spend enough time with it.

Heh, the first thing I did when I installed XP was set the look back to "Classic" (or whatever it was). I can't stand the new XP look.

Damn, gonna need that mop VP.... Sorry.

Yah, I soon set my XP to classic. I tried to find a decent skin but they all sucked big time.

Yeah tell me about it! Skaarjj and Ogie just installed this on my computer when I was having probs with it. Since then Ive had literally no probs...*touch wood*.
I LOVE the look and how it previews pictures epesh if you a grafix student or an artist like myself
One suggestion I do say is try www.themexp.org
....and check out the new themes and other things there. I think it is the blue theme that I have on mine and damn it is way too cool! With thanks to Skaarjj who pointed it out to me one night when I dropped around.

Narr.... OS skins are seriously overated. You seen how ugly web page form elements look with an XP theme enabled?... It's a crime I tell ya. I went through all the themes on themexp.org and well, eh, nup. Just didn't like em.

If I want to look at something pertty I'll watch a movie, if I want my OS to get in the way, I'll put the skins back on. Although OS X manages to pull it off, but that's because they kinda designed the OS around it's asthetic, rather than trying to hack a skin into a platform that wasn't really designed with "skining" in mind. It all looks and feels like an aftert hought to me, although that may just be the falut of every skin I've ever tried but I doubt it.

The first thing I do after installing XP is to switch back to the Classic style. Can't stand the new XP style. But a couple of days ago I found a rather nice style that I like so far, screenshot(241kb) .

That skin was found in themexp.org. That site is very interesting and very busy all the time. They say they're gonna make it better, better servers and the like. Let's wait because currently, it's really a pain in the arse. But, strangely, when I download a skin from there, I usually get a very high speed, around 500 k per second.

About using skins in WinXP, the difference between me and most of the people in this forum, and also the reason why I like that skin and I like skins in general, is that I'm not a designer, so I don't have enough skills to say: "hey, this skin has abrupt edges and corners, too much blue, it gets me sick, bla bla bla... For me, it's pretty or not, it's cool or not. And when I look at that skin, wow, I find it cool, pretty, awesome. When I looked first time at the original WinXP theme, the same happened.

For me, the biggest difference between WinXP and Win2k is that the former looks great and the latter looks like something I'm tired of looking at (since Win95!!). WinXP without a skin (like the official blue or green ones, for instance), is not WinXP, it's just Windows.

I, just like a lot of people here, went right back to the classic style. I even have my menu set to classic style.

I love XP, but I can not stand that funky "bubble" look.

Linux, you can change a lot of stuff too. Themes are free and I don't have to buy some software to make the themes work. ~sigh~ only if PS worked. I don't think I like Gimp very much. ~sigh~

Then again we are not talking about Linux now are we

I found a sort of a bug in that skin and I hate bugs.
So, I'm back to an original WinXP skin.
Following sinax tip, now using the silver one. It's really nice (and neutral).
Am I unstable?

Aren't we all? I use win classic and modify the hell out of it. When I get home maybe I'll load up a pic for you to see. I'm in Lord of the Rings mode right now... Saruman's Blood Sigil. It looks pretty slick. I admit I just did some cheap layer filters with PS but it was fast.
