if any of you have seen ghost in the shell or ninja scroll, you know how good the animation was drawn there, well I found out that people used a specific technique to draw called cel-animation, and it was mentioned that its a diffrent way of making animation from the rest of the cartoons, if any of you know please explain how it works and whats the diffrence from standard frame animation?

I couldn't find anything about the difference between cell animation and cel-animation, or if there really is a difference. I don't know.

One movie that I've always been curious about is Lion King. How did they do the shading and colour blending? Like Zazu beak?

by timple typing in cel animation, and using a pinch of intellingence, you would be suprised at what yuo can find in google.

this, for example.

honestly. just try it first.

even if you don't know what to type into google, try it anyway. go to some effort, before you start requesting effort from other people.

but anyways... cel animation essentially is traditional animation.
but i'll compare it to basic animation for you:

basic: draw a picture on paper, capture it, draw the next, capture that. put them all together in sequence for an animation.

cel: exactly the same, but the each component in the picture (each character, object, the background) is painted onto a separate, transparent cel, and they are all put on top of each other to compose the picture, which is then captured. this saves time on redrawing, as components can be re-used (such as a static background).

note that all this information is from my head, and has about as much reliability as your web searching abilities.

oh... and seeing as i'm feeling helpful... us normal people here spell "squere" like this: "squAre".

when it comes to talk about star wars or LotR you are like crazy rushing to post something, but when I am trying to make a converstation you become dickheads as if I was begging for something....

about cel-animation according to what I know it was done in japanese animes such as "ghost in the shell", "ninja scroll", and "Akira". I never heard whats the real big diffrence is, but the only thing I always hear in interview and other stuff is that its simply alternative way of making animation...and I absolutly have no idea how the heck they do it or what they do, but I see the diffrence on the screen while watching those movies....
the motion looks simply too smooth compare to other cartoons and animes, eye candy!

and thanks reitsma thats all I wanted to know!

and ok fine I did a fucking mistake on typing square so what try doing something in russian

ruski - it did not sound like you were trying to make conversation. conversation would involve you raising a topic, perhaps expressing your opinion on the topic, and inviting others to comment on the topic.

you were asking for help: "please explain how it works".

now, i could try to explain at length why you got the replies you did, but instead, i'll point you here.

Here's one interesting part of this document:

quote:
Odds are you'll screw up a few times on hacker community forums ? in ways detailed in this article, or similar. And you'll be told exactly how you screwed up, possibly with colourful asides. In public.

When this happens, the worst thing you can do is whine about the experience, claim to have been verbally assaulted, demand apologies, scream, hold your breath, threaten lawsuits, complain to people's employers, leave the toilet seat up, etc. Instead, here's what you do:

Get over it. It's normal. In fact, it's healthy and appropriate.

Community standards do not maintain themselves: They're maintained by people actively applying them, visibly, in public. Don't whine that all criticism should have been conveyed via private mail: That's not how it works. Nor is it useful to insist you've been personally insulted when someone comments that one of your claims was wrong, or that his views differ. Those are loser attitudes.

There have been hacker forums where, out of some misguided sense of hyper-courtesy, participants are banned from posting any fault-finding with another's posts, and told "Don't say anything if you're unwilling to help the user." The resulting departure of clueful participants to elsewhere causes them to descend into meaningless babble and become useless as technical forums.

Exaggeratedly "friendly" (in that fashion) or useful: Pick one.

Remember: When that hacker tells you that you've screwed up, and (no matter how gruffly) tells you not to do it again, he's acting out of concern for (1) you and (2) his community. It would be much easier for him to ignore you and filter you out of his life. If you can't manage to be grateful, at least have a little dignity, don't whine, and don't expect to be treated like a fragile doll just because you're a newcomer with a theatrically hypersensitive soul and delusions of entitlement.

Ruski, ruski, ruski. We are helping you...People do not leanr stuff if all the information is handed to them on a silver platter, that is why we encourage you to go out into cyberspace on your own and do your own searching...we're not being tight-arses, we want you to learn, and the best way to see if someone can swim is to throw them in at the deep-end. Now...lets go right back to the start of this thread...you asked if we know the difference between cel-animation and standard frame animation, well, yes, some of us do, but there are people out there who know a lot more than us, so Mahjqa directed you ot the best way to find them, since obviously he may not have known exact URLs, and he wasn't going to do your own work for you by searching for you. Then your next question

quote:
what the heck am I supposed to type there...."how cell animation works?"

Well, the answer to this should have been obvious, and we all know you're intelligent enough to work it out on your own.

Now, you'll excuse me if I don't reply so politley and with such good advice the next time you decide to blow up because we won't deliver the answers you want to your front door for you.

Look guys all I ever wanted for you to share your knowlege with me when I ask a question, I dont order you to do a work for me, I simply wanna know what other person knows about it...if you dont it is better not to say anything or simply close my post.....

Ex: when someone aks why photoshop is better than paint shop pro? are you gonna say do a google search? i guess not you simply will give your reason, right?

well thats what I was trying ask you, but instead about animation, I wanted to start a topic about animation . I did try to make a google search, but I had so little knowledge about it, that I only heard it was done in certain movies, the ones I mentioned, I never knew Disney used the same technique and that cel-animation is the first to be used since 1915....

and I was in pretty bad mood when posted that stuff, so I am gonna say sorry

Ruski: You said:

Yes that is what I'd do (there was a thread about the differences between Flash and, I believe, Live Motion and tht is what I did). You are rarely the first person to ask any question and with the wonders of the Internet and a good search engine you can now usually hunt out someone who has not only asked the question but had it answered too).

Exactly what I'd do is something like:

1. Ponder the problem for a while thinking about what I want to know and the ways I'd ask about it.

2. After coming up with a few permutations of my question I'd visit Google and plug them in and see what happens (it might be that this brings up some results which give further help on your search, like technical terms, better phrasing, etc., and so you can plug them back in too repeating this step as often as possible). Using your example I'd try:
http://www.google.com/search?q=comparison+photoshop+psp
http://www.google.com/search?q=comparison+photoshop+%22paint+shop+pro%22

which turns up similarish results including forums that have discussed this before:
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum36/368.htm
http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/lev2/4/lev3/31/pid/446/qid/20368
http://www.designsbydaybreak.com/htmlhavenlearninggazette/reviews/paintshoppro7.html

3. I'd then read through those resources and see if they answered my question.

4. Given your example I'd probably pop into the PS forum here and post a message like:

quote:
I have had a look around the Internet for comparison of PS and PSP and while PSP is cheaper and provides a lot of good tools to produce graphics I was seeking people's opinions on this, ep. as I know there are PSP and PSP to PS cnverts amongst our numbers.

I'd probably also throw in the relevant sites I'd find to help kickstart the debate.

---
Obviously going out searching for the result takes time, patience, a reasonable attention span. lateral thinking, a bit of luck, some skill, etc. but it is a skill well worth acquiring - I seem to use Google 3 to 4 times a day on various topics (it is so quick and accurate there is little messing around if done right). I also tend to pick up related information which I file away for future use too

I doubt I'd ask a question here (or anywhere) unless I'd thoroughly exhausted my other resources. Coming to the table with evidence of searching/work you've already done also helps cut out the first round of posts asking you to expand on your question and allows you to get right down to the nitty gritty (which means you are most likely to get the best possible answer).

But the difference here is that you didn't ask our opinions on anything. (How PS is better than PSP would be based on opinion and opens up debate and discussion.) Neither did you ask a specific question about a specific aspect of cell animation.

All you did was say you heard somewhere that one type of animation was different from another type, then asked us to explain it all to you. That would be like me saying, without ever having looked up the basics, "Hey, someone told me people used to churn their own butter. Is butter churning back then different from how they make it in a factory now and what's the difference in the two processes?" Hell, that's the sort of broad question a teacher asks when you're told to write a 10-page research paper.

We love answering questions, but your question covered way too much ground. You heard a little about a subject and then wanted everyone else to explain the whole concept to you. If you had said, for example, "I started doing some reading on animation techniques and discovered how cell animation works, but I still don't understand how they do the shading; does anyone know anything about it?" you would have given us a place to start.

BTW, if you can't find a good resource for a subject on the Web, make an effort and go to the library. Okay, let the laughter die down and I'll say it again...go to the library. Or go to Barnes and Noble. Or Borders. Or Amazon. I guarantee you, with a little bit of effort, you can find out a lot of information for yourself in these old things called books. Can't beat 'em.

If, after finding out as much as you can through research, you still have a specific question, or would like opinions on specific techniques, then start a discussion. Don't take this as "find out yourself...we don't want to answer your questions." We just want you to expend a little effort educating yourself instead of asking right up front for us to explain an entire subject to you.

And BTW, Emp wasn't just harassing you about your misspelling; he was making a joke, which you apparently didn't get. (Funny, BTW...took me a minute.)

Edit: Wow...Emp's post wasn't there when I started. I did not just spend a 1/2 hour on that, did I? Yeesh.
