I am confused. Listen to me, guys.

My book says to me that browsers and image editor (photoshop) do 16 bit-color calcultations differently. As a result of 16 bit-color user, website will never match created by web desiner, right? But when we create web site, we always stick to "web safe" color, don't we?!

Yes. I am really confused. I don't understand what my book talks to me.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Yea, and on top of that, there are as many different monitor calibrations as there are monitors, so No, most won`t see it the way you do in your graphics editor. Welcome to the Web.

And *we* don`t stick to the web safe pallette very much.

If you book talks to you , maybe we need to adjust your meds....

Excuse me?!

Don't you use web safe pallet? what do you use to create images for the web?

I never stick to the websafe palette. You'll probably be best off just unchecking that box.

The colors will degrade fine for those using 16/8 bit color. They'll be able to discern what your site is made of (even if it looks a tad different). The main point is that they can still read it.

In short; using web-safe colors is far too limiting for graphics, especially since most surfers already have a higher color level installed. If they haven't they'll be used to seeing slight color-variations in websites.

The differences in color appearance are very small between different browsers. In general, if an image looks right in one browser, you can assume it will look very close to right in any other browser. The web safe color pallette isn't really a concern anymore; if a web safe color works for the site, then feel free to use it, but don't let it restrict you in any way. It just doesn't make a big enough difference anywhere to really matter.
