Preserved Topic: So, uh, tell me what you think

It's not "final" yet, so don't go spreading the link around (to all of your secret javascript friends). I'm just asking for some people to read it over and tell me about any spelling, grammar, or content mistakes. And to let me know if it's clear and understandable.

Seems pretty good to me. I'm on my way out the door, so I just skimmed over it.

But I definitely had to applaud you for the "JavaScript != Java" portion. That's one of my pet peeves.

Well I think most of us here knew that, you knew... your stuff =) and this is confirmation.

It was a bit spooky too because just before I looked at your work I'd done a google on 'what is java?' =) Timing was perfect. If I spot any glaring errors I'll let you know.

Oh...btw.... using that querie... most of the top hits were years old. A googlebomb maybe?

Yeah, I was actually debating whether or not to include the Java != JavaScript part, since you find it in practically *every* JavaScript-related writing online. But despite that fact, people don't seem to catch on to it, so I put it in anyway.

I haven`t had time to read it through, yet, but it`s well laid out and easy to understand (so far).

Alas, I'm just ducking out too but I like the way you've approached this, focusing on the DOM and CSS rather than the scripting language itself. It seems a little similar to BrainJar's articles in this sense which is good cause if it wasn't for his site I'd probably still be struggling to grasp certain concepts in this regard.

It also appears to be written very well. Clear, concise and easy to understand. You obviously know what your talking about but it's good to see that you haven't dumbed it down nor loaded it with too much jargon.

The flowchart diagram works well too. It seems very well rounded atm but you might want to include some stuff about the future of HTML/XHTML and the DOM. For example, a lot of people I run into still think the <object> tag is just there to put flash into a website. Maybe a little section about what possibilities there currently are for developers to extend HTML/XHTML pages past just images and text (Like video, audio, flash content etc...) through using the <object> tag and generally how their supported and how their meant to work. Just a thought, if you ever wanted to extend it, as I think this si something many web designers seem sketchy about at the best of times.

Oops, now I'm late, see what you do! Gah! Nice work though. That would have taen a while to write and it should help a lot of people. You should write more.

Dracusis: I'm not going to include that bit you recommended about the object tag and stuff, since that would be a little off topic - the article is more about how to access the document via javascript than how to write the document in the first place. Thanks anyway though.

At last I've had the time to give it a thorough read and it's good, really good!

It follows the level you set in the beginning and as long as you (the reader) remembers that he understands why you won't go deeper/shallower.

The only thing that left me a wee bit hanging was that you talk a lot of changing content through the DOM using javascript which tells me that the content is dependant of the javascript. Then you end the piece with words stating that you should make sure the page works without javascript. Perhaps a couple of lines/a tip on how to approach this.
Or am I off here and this part is just connected to the non-DOM browsers?
