On a lonesome night I was browsing b0g.org and I saw a JPG on this link:
http://www.b0g.org/wsnm/news.php?artc=3935&s=f43601b046f331cd2af0073f4283d083

If you select the flowers you see a different picture, this seems to work only in Internet Explorer. Does anyone know what causes this effect and how this can be reproduced on other images?

Thanx in advance.

edit by Skaarjj: OK...just going to let everyone know...slightly adult content there^^^

hmm, this is basically 2 images in one where the IE over dither effect shows the image thats underneath

I have no idea how to duplicate it though. I'd imagine it's relatively simple though

Yeah, it's a 2x2 checker thing. Let's say you have a 2x2 checker pattern with black and white. Over the black dots, there is one picture. Over the white dots, there is another picture. Not really that hard to duplicate. Notice that the 'hidden' picture isn't overly bright, saturated, or contrasty - this is to help hide it when you can see all of the pixels.

It's a pretty neat trick. I first learned of it back in my Amiga days.

Yea seen this at newstoday (search PV-AN for 'JPEG Illusion ??' if you want), but at a different (poor protected) site and they said ay newstoday:

"When u select an image it replaces every second pixel with either a white or black pixel. SO it hides every second pixel, only showing the pixels that make up that girl pic - kinda cool. A bit like those old paper things that look like butterflies, you fold them in half, hold them up to the light and see a pic of something. "

&

"its an easy effect. ie highlights images when selected with a pixel checkerboard. you get two images, and interlace them into one image with one image taking up the pixels that would be covered up by the selection effect, and another image in the other uncovered pixels.

it helps to make the covered up image brighter or otherwise stand out more than the other one, so you don't see two images at a time (like in o0o's buddha). "

So go and figure yourself as I don't know how to do it, tho and don't really care either, but nice tho. Also does not work in most browsers.

Warjournal has the right idea about it all .

Raptor: I like that - now if you could do the dither trick so it says 'I REALLY should use Google before asking silly questions). Did you make that? If so could I find a home for it in the FAQ?

I made an FAQ on this (crappy title though):

:FAQ: How do you hide one image in another which shows up when the image is selected?

I wish I could say I made that, but I didn't It'd be more than easy to hide an image in it though.. give me a bit and I'll see what I can do

Pjot: I assume you haven't seen the Vagina Monologues? It's a pretty good show. I suggest you go see it sometime you have time/money, as it's well worth it. They do a good monologue on hair that would open your eyes.
