and... well what more can be said. PETA wasn't able to stop Possum Drop 2004 .

quote:
For the past 12 years on New Year's Eve, this Appalachian town has, at the stroke of midnight, lowered a possum in a clear plastic cage from the roof of a petrol station. It is called the Possum Drop. Hundreds pack Brasstown to see it.

quote:
Debbie Leahy, director of PETA's captive animals and entertainment issues, said she did not know which member made the call.

But she said the event was "perverse, reckless and terrifying to the possum".

"There's a number of legal actions we could pursue against that guy," Ms Leahy said.

Mr Logan, 57, said he thought about using a live possum despite the phone call.

"But I can't fight these people," he said. "Not with lawyers and all."

So, with hours to go and the crowd building, Mr Logan put the word out: find me a possum - a dead one

Ahhh... God Bless America.

LOL! Don't forget to visit Clay's Corner to see the "The Reining Queen; Little Miss Brasstown".

Well that's different... I'm not a huge PETA fan but I'm on their side for this one. Seems like a case of scaring the hell out of some animal just for fun. Sounds yuck. I like the Queen though

I've never had much respect for PETA, but they lost any I may have had for them in the future when they started handing these out to children outside a performance of The Nutcracker a couple weeks ago.

Pretty gruesome posters. I'd be mad if they gave one to my kids. That's way over the top for children and really makes it hard to like PETA even though I think they're right in many areas. Still, people who wear fur as a fashion statement... I don't know. I feel zero pity when they get cans of paint splashed on them. I don't think it's right to target their kids in this way though.

I want to see the follow up with grandma wacking a cow in the head with a sledge hammer or ripping heads of chickens.

UC- I agree, but if you sprinkle some crushed red pepper, oregano . . . or if you are a little crazy- maybe put some hot sauce on it. pre-heat oven 450 degrees, while its still alive, tie its legs together with rope, blind fold it, put it on a baking sheet, and place it in the oven for about 40 minutes, take it out, flip it over, and another 10 minutes is fine. Some people prefer red wine, I like australian white- 1995 is a good year.

Bon Apetite!

I saw one of their posters once which had the head of a cow dripping in blood impaled on a piece of wood... The caption said something like "MMMM... BEEF"

I agree with the basic tenents on which PETA was founded.

But at this point, I'd like to put their members in cages, and beat them to death so I could use their skin as clothing.

I have seen chickens being slain (i have to kill a couple of them once, it was very impressive for me to see the head still cluckin' about a couple of mineutes after being removed from the body), and i still enjoy them during my meals ^_~

I have not seen cows or beef be killed yet, but my mom killed porks when seh was a child. And she loves pork meat.

PETA has gone off the deep end I'm afraid. It's a real shame too because they are not helping their cause at this point but simply turning people away from it. ~sigh~

I wouldn't be too interested in watching a possum drop and I don't think it is good to mistreat animals like that. But if the possum is just dropped and then let go, I seriously doubt it really causes much harm to the animal, it's the people who enjoy watching it I wonder about.

We have a few possums around my house and they certainly are ugly and unappealing creatures. They remind me a lot of the ROUSs that one would see in The Princess Bride... just not that big
