Just came across this site and, well, as far as I can tell, the logo (top right) narrowly misses copyright infringement on 2 counts (the @ symbol and the Apple Computers logo, complete with bite from the side).

Would you feel confident soliciting the assistance of this agency?

Psst!

I would actually feel the oposite. I do not feel that their logos are too totally close. One is a modified @ sysmbol while the other is an apple with the bite taken out of it. Now maybe you might think that apple took some of thier creative ideas from the @ but I with its missing bit at the bottom but I don't see it as a bite taken out.

Then on to the actual site which I find the art to be pretty good. Not my perferred style but something that might be fitting for Japanese advertising. The custom work was also pretty good.

So, no I don't agree, and I wouldn't feel bad about contacting them for some ideas. I wouldn't give them money based on their site, but it would make me think of calling them.

I don't see anything that concerns me there.

There are plenty of companies with the name 'apple', and apple computers was certainly not the first.

The @ symbol used as an apple, as far as I am concerned, carries no correlation to apple computers, and I can't beleive that the @ itself is in any way copyrighted - it would have to be used in a very specific way (like as an apple ) to carry any copyright/trademark.

As for the styles of illustration there - they are quite broad and varied, with many things that would be very applicable to a broad number of markets.

I like their image rotator. Just reload the front page a few times.

I don't have a problem with the name, after all, there's an 'apple car clinic' round the corner from where I live, but I can't help feeling that the logo was just too close to some other designs.

As for the @ symbol not being copyrighted... I wish I could find the reference but I believe you'll find it belongs to an individual and is used on keyboards under license from the designer.

Seriously? Despite the bite out of the side (allbeit the other side):

I agree there is some interesting work on the site but this seems to belong to the individuals/companies whih the agency represents.

Hey-ho maybe I'm just being picky.

I have a hard time seeing that as a bite out of the side....

it's simply the way the @ is......

It would be interesting to learn of any copyright on the @. It is used everywhere you look these days, and I'm quite sure not everyone using it has paid anybody any for the right.

Just a note ... it would be a trademark, not a copyright. You can't copyright an at symbol.

Wes, I'm not sure about that either.

If it was a logo, then I can see it being a trademark but it's a symbol, which means someone designed it (there was a time when keyboards didn't carry the symbol at all, because it didn't exist), therefore, that individual owns the copyright pertaining to the symbol.

Damn, I feel like I'm being really pedantic
