FYI

I am looking to move closer to NYC and have been using www.roommates.com. I paid $20 for 1 month of use. You can search by nieghborhood. Pretty useful for people to get a feel for whats out there price-wise . . . .

seems that there should be a free service that would be just as good.

I used a service like that once for Rental Property. Didn't find a damn thing. When I was shoping for an apartment, I found a few free books that listed apartments in the area. Gave a nice desciption of it and the rent.

There was one called Apartment Guide and Apartment Blue Book, or something like that. Check and see if there are any of those free little guide near newspaper stands that you can grab.

Here ya go:
*Apartment Blue Book
*Apartment Guide

I?ve used www.homestore.com (it?s free).

You can search for apartments and homes anywhere in the US. They provide everything you can imagine...

price
address
1-800 number that forwards you to the listing so you don?t have to pay to call
list of features
floor plans
printable brochure
map and directions
management profile

I?ve used the site to move a few times... defiantly one of the most useful sites I know of.
