Preserved Topic: ICQ/Trillian problems (Page 1 of 1)

I have now had a number of (perfectly polite) complaints that people can't contact me on ICQ - the messages get greeted with:

This mainly seems to be mainly when people are on Trillian trying to contact me on ICQ.

The options are that it is:

1. A problem on my end - I have had a few problems with my connection in the last day or so but the problems with ICQ go back further than that..

2. A wider problem with Trillian and ICQ talking to each other - has any else had this problem?

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

Also if there is anyone out there thinking I am an antisocial bastard well I am but I'm probably not ignoring you on purpose (this time).

I have so far not figured out any rhyme or reason to this problem. It kind of seems like the connection goes stale if I don't send a message every few seconds and then I have to try multiple times before I don't get the error message Emps posted. I'm clueless at this point.

i have icqlite and am on that mostly. it's showing you online and acting like the messages are being sent....but obviously you're not getting them.
on trillian, i get that error message. like i was trying to tell you, i had spoken to ws earlier with no problems....so it makes me think the problems is definately on your end and not just with trillian and icq but icqlite aswell. not that any of that helps in any way.....i wouldn't have any idea on what the problem is exactly or how to fix it.

I think I might have found the fix - it appears that this happens when invisible ICQ users add Trillian users to their visible list and the fix is to remove them:

Bugs, InI and Lacuna I'll remove you from my visible list and see if that fixes things (I knew that bloody list was going to cause problems).

I had that with you too.. tried to send you a message yesterday. I could see you were invisible but the message just wouldn't go through.

Once he removed me from the list, things seemed to work quite normally.

Amerasu: Sorry - I have removed you from my visible list. I'll also remove DmS as he was having troubles and was pretty accurate on where the problem was coming from.

JKMabry: Glad it could help someone else out

It seems like there a couple of workarounds but it is possible that (for some arcane reason only know to the people in ICQ HQ) they possibly stop working after a bit. I'll keep an eye on the situation and report back if anything changes.
