Lansing? We are a bit south of Lansing. Earlier today the power did go out for around 10 seconds, but we're fine. Looks like we got lucky in my neck of the woods. |

I'm about 30 minutes south of NYC and we are in one of the luckier parts of Jersey. My power went out just long enough to reboot my computers and make all my clocks flash 12:00. Other than that there's no problems here. We do have some family about an hour north of here that's out of power though. |

played pioneers? good reason to introduce the kids to camping at an early age! catch them in their "i want to help/learn" stage just gathering wood has many benefits - (leave the green ones, those are good for smoke signals. we're going to cook so we need the dry ones.) the little ones gather the smaller twigs for kindling and the older ones gather bigger pieces of wood. everything is used, hence everyone learns (s)he is needed, esteem grows and knowledge of the real world (outside of a city) grows too! plus the added benefit of doing things as a family - all working/playing together! |

My mom and I were just in NYC during this outage trying to catch a bus to the Newark airport for my flight to Germany... We went out of the hotel at about 4, sat at the stop to wait, and at about 4:10 or so traffic lights went out.. everything clogged up.. we heard later that additionally, our bus got in an accident about a block or two away. A series of either unfortunate mishaps followed, and we ended up basically being stranded on the sidewalk for 4 hours... I was late for my flight by *half* an hour.. (plus what it would take me to get through security etc.) |

Power went out here in Detroit a day before I left for NC (just got back today). I was pissed, since there was a possibility we would not be able to go on our long awaited beach excursion due to refueling areas having no power. IT SUCKED! But alas the day of, the power began going back on all around us, and by departure time it was clear we'd be going. We had a great vacation...Good to be back with the power on. I can't believe how truly dependent we are on electricity. It was frightening for a while, but I could see every star in the sky that night since there was no light pollution...weird. |
