I think i've just about mastered the scrolling script! Sorry if this doesn't work on macs...

I'm also sorry if the server's down; if it is, finish looking around the asylum and come back when you're done to try again.

What do you all think? Does it work for everyone?

i played with it real quick and thought it was slick...

i have up and down scrollers on a new design i made, but only have the buttons for up and down. i like the added feature of being able to click the button and drag.

i think a smoother scroll would be nice when you click on the up and down buttons, but that's about it.

My friend with IE 5.5 just said the clicking-and-dragging feature didn't work for him. Anyone else have version 5.5?

I use ie4.0 still. worked fine for me, but the text scrolled well outside of the nice window graphic (about an inch top and bottom).

That IE 4.0 problem should be handled fairly easily; thanks for mentioning it. but IE 5.5 is killing me... I'll have to figure somethign out...

That's a nice script, just like the one at dreamshadow.net or whatever. The only thing that bugs me about these scripts is that they are not compatible with wheel mice. I always use the wheel to scroll, and I usually get frustrated and end up closing sites with this type of setup. Nicely written script though. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Hah, netscape window resizing bugs. Gotta love those.

mbridge, I certainly agree with you about the scroll-wheel - I use that too all the time! I think it's worth the sacrifice in this case though. =)

Thanks to all who have tested and replied.

It worked for me in IE 5.5 Win 98 (I don't think the OS should matter though)

Actually my biggest trick was figuring it out with the mouse click. You may want it to just scroll onMousedown and release onMouseup

Er, it *does* scroll onmousedown and release onmouseup.

How annoying. It seems that for three people with IE 5.5, it behaves differently.

Hey, here's a thought! When you're running a client side script like a scroller, you're using the CPU on peoples machines like crazy. Maybe the slower machines are so busy doing calculations they miss the mouse up? That's happened to me before, truth.
