IMHO MSIE is the best web browser. Period.

Oh, as far as Opera is concerned, the biggest difference is that Opera doesn't have support for dynamic page changing (i.e. innerHTML won't work).

Mozilla is good competition for the best browser, once it's finished... I like it a lot, and it works on multiple platforms, I believe, not just Windows; that's IE's main disadvantage.

Well, IE also works alright on a mac, but I don't wanna see everybody only planning and designing and programming for IE, there will ALWAYS be folks with other and older browsers. You'll always have to go for a non-framed, non-JS, non-Java, non-IE-tag-specialized page. I want people to look at my pages and be able to get the content out, and for that, I throw away all mouseover effects and flash thingys with JOY.

I don't think any browser will ever get "finished". But Opera has been out there a long time, so I don't understand why it can be better at supporting the DOM. Let's hope they can make it better.

Well... "finished" in my post above meant when they come out with a non-beta version.

It sounds to me as we are going in one direction:
IE gets all the fancy stuff since it has an easier re-flow for the page
and what ever is not IE (!IE) would get a non-everything only hard-boned html site.version.
I think this is kind of unfair but I have to admit, Gates built himself a nice little monopole!
BTW. How can Mozilla differ so much from the old NNs? They all used to have a pretty good backward combatibility.

kars10, Mozilla is not made by Shitscape corporation anymore, and people from Mozilla Gorup couldn't care less about Shitscape's stupid ideas (i.e. their stupid document.layers, for example)...

I 101% agree with max, damn, everytime. In my opinion, ie is the best browser, microsoft just had the money to get elite programmers and designers.
Netscape keeps yelling that their browser is following the standard, and I keep asking them why is document.layers is packed with Netscape while it's not a standard feature. Netscape 6 is packed with layers too!!
When you guys get to really writing scripts, you will definity feel that IE is more DYNAMIC and user/developer friendly.

is opera still free? think I should get that just for fun.
by the way, any one know the browser stats or know where to find them? I am interested in what % Opera, IE and NS get.

.-` PEACE `-.

Opera comes in many different flavors, and one of them is ad-supported.

As an aside.

I haven't seen this in action yet and I doubt those that do run *nix are going to even want to use it but Microsoft is developing IE 5 for Solaris.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/preview/unixbeta/ie5sp1.htm

I'd assume they may want to make it availible for other *nix sytems.
