I remember seeing this effect in an old Kirby game for NES =)

I think they might have used it in one of the gameboy versions...

You should make the textures on the sides progressivly darker. That will make it look more 3D.

Funny though, I almost always have animated gifs turned "off" by default in my browser, it makes those ugly flashing ad banners so much easier to handle. When I went to this site at first I didn't see anything, but remembered to switch back. Has anyone else out there started doing this also? Just curious, could be a useful mini-statistic.

I did it, and then stared at sigs in the sig forum, trying to figure out why the second frame of them would never appear. Switched it back since =)

One reason why I made the first frame of my sig the default, so that even if you can't see any animation, you can still see the sig. Of course, my sig doesn't really rely on the animation, either.

You can turn animated gifs off? I never knew that. Can you do it in IE?

[Edit: never mind, I just found it. I had never thought to turn it off. I think I'll try it for a while and see if it helps my headaches. Oh, I almost forgot. Neat effect, InI!]

I have never disabled animated images so far. Only thing that I have disabled now (or to be more precise - I don't have it installed at all) is Java. Since Windows XP didn't come with Java pre-installed, I didn't bother downloading it. Personally, I don't need it, because I don't visit web sites that cannot be viewed without Java, and as a bonus I don't see Java adverts anymore (do you remember the famous "Spank the monkey" & "Shock the monkey" adverts?) When I stumble on web site that needs Java, I use old Netscape 4 (that's the only browser on my computer with Java support) to view it.
