The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

I have built all my pages to be NN4 compatible until just recently. My slicepuzzle is the first project that I have officially dumped NN4 support. I suppose I could have spent an extra month and gotten it to work in NN4 but it is just not worth it at this point *especially* when my visitors are 99% IE users. I was amazed at how few people are using Netscape anymore. As far as Mozilla goes, I'm doing my best to support it but its dynamic HTML performance is really discouraging.

Here's what I'm doing: any page I make, I make sure the *content* is visible in NN 4 - even if it looks like crap, people can still *see* it. But I don't worry about accompanying CSS or JavaScript - I base that only on standards, and link to it in such a way that NN can't see it (using DOM detection in JS (if (document.getElementById)) and @import in CSS).

That way, people who have no choice but to use NN (because, say, they can only use the internet at work and are forced to use what the authorities make them use) are still able to see my page - but that's all they're able to do. No fancy scripting for them; it's not worth it anymore.

This is why it pays to separate style and content.

Mozilla, btw, is doing about as good a job as IE is; they both have about the same amount of support for DOM standards, just in different pieces of it. Patience =)

Slime, I agree the support is there but it's the performance that I'm finding problematic. I am getting very different behaviors from my scripts than I do in IE (and NN4 for that matter).

I just hope Opera gets a DOM fix sometime soon.

Im most of my play tests lately Opera seems to be out performing IE when it comes to DHTML animation. If only they'd put in the rest of the DOM. Oh, and innerHTML. That would rock!

I still can't seem to let go if NN4 though. Don't know why. Even when I'm doing stuff in DOM compliant browsers that I'm not skillfull enough to get working in NN4 I'll still try and make sure the effect degrades as little as possible.

Although I seem to be the only one still carrying around my blanky here. Is there any huge advantage to ditching NN4 appart from the headaches of trying to get it to work?

To be honest I've never really looked into what 5th generation browser only scripting has to offer aside from IE's filters and some Mozilla specific stuff. Are there bells and wistles I'm not seeing? If so, where do I find documentation on them?
