I am currently making a web site for a friends on-line business. I am going to be using a dHTML menu for the main reason that it makes the pages lay out easier. The question that I have is...how will this effect the traffic to the site in regard to people that have older browsers? Should I make the site with two different pages or do you think that I could just make a browser sniffer and if their browser doesn't support it, tell them to upgrade?

I just don't want the traffic to the site to go down because I used some fancy dHTML menu.

Thanks for any words of advice...

For a start, I would suggest you to use DHTML menu script that works in all major web browsers (IE, NN4, Mozilla/NN6, Opera 5). For all other web browsers you should create alternate accessible version of the navigation menu (i.e. by using tables)...

Make it so if they have an older browser, clicking on something that would *normall* give them a drop down menu will instead send them to a page that's sort of a table of contents for that section, with links to each of the things that would have been in the menu.

Thanks Max! I was going to use Brattli's cool menu from dHTML central. It works in most browsers. I am having some problems with it in Mac IE though and it doesn't work at all in Opera5.

Do you know of one that would work in most browsers that is like this?

Thanks...
