We have done so.

I'm not crazy about the "slimes in action" one to be honest. I'd rather see people create their own characters and animate them instead. =) The 3d one may be over some people's heads, and beyond what they're able to learn in a month's worth of free time. The other ones look good.

I'm not sure how 'moderators' will be handled. Obviously we don't want this to be a competition where the winner does the next one, but something like repeat performance would be good, where it's basically just the same people who post it each month. (That'd be you, maybe me, maybe some of the other prominent javascripters around like bugimus or mr.max if he gets into it.) It's friendly, so we can just be like "yeah, that sounds like a good theme for the next round."

I was on the verge on contributing someting the last month, but unfortunatly time didn't allow it Hopefully I'll get enough time this month to join the fun.

My votes for the next month:
* Drag and drop and fun
* Scrolling
* Animate some graphics thing (like the slimies in action, but without the slimies )

My rants:

* Tell me a dhtml story
* Playable game
* 3d effects ( I couldn't let this one away )

I also like the idea of changing "moderator" each month, it should bring some really different and interresting themes.

hum... can I ramble and code my entries now ?

I wanna pick em all!

1) Playable/Interactive Game
2) Drag-n-Drop (Cause I suck at doing this...)
3) Scrolling

We could also have some quirky language specific themes. Like focusing the entry around a specific object or event like, Mouse events, or document.write(ing), or DOM 1 non-proprietary content manipulation. It might be fun to see how people push the limits of certain objects and stuff. Then again it might not be very fun at all.

"Or is it my destiny to be the .ini for each game every month?" <- LMAO! I couldn't have put it better. Although I'd like to see as little influence by moderators as possible yet we do need a way of deciding on the theme for each month. Maybe we could just compile a big list of different themes and just rotate through them, or would each person nominate a theme (again, maybe from a set list) each month when they submit their entry?... In any event we'd need someone, actually a couple of people who could set up the new thread each month and define a clear set of rules. I think we'd need more than one incase someone goes AWOL.

I agree the 3D effects would be rather advanced. I'd really like to learn 3D maths but I think it would take me several months let alone one. I thought we could also use this thread to discuss the possibility of other Coding projects. InI, I remember you were talking about making a tutorial or something about vectors in DHTML. Maybe we could set up a DHTML coding workshop over at the GN, similar to the design workshop that's just started, which has pulled in a fair few people who have always been interested in design but haven't ever done formal studies in the area. 3D DHTML could be something to at least work up too -- just a thought.

I'd also like to thank you again for that circle example you posted back in Doc's orbit thread. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would have been able to pull-off last months entry. I spent ages playing with that example =)... It was hell fun.

Oh and maybe we should drop a thread in the main Ozone forum about this. I'd really like to see less experienced or the not so well know coders getting involved (Like Emps, Mas, and TP just to name a couple) and for the most part those people usually don't pop in here that often but they'd likely frequent the main forum.

FWIW, I added one new line to my BugPaint entry that eliminates the controversy about using triggers in HTML elements. http://www.bugimus.com/dhtml/20liners/bugstwentyC.html

As I said before, I'm quite flexible about the next contest guidelines. I'll just wait and see how the vote turns out and that's cool with me.
