Is there a trick creating such small and *readable* text as it can be found on Doc's entrance page (when you click on "Who is Ozone?" for example)?

You may try laying out the text in Illustrator prior to placing it in your image. This will allow you to scale to the size you like with vector lettering prior to rasterizing it. I've done this periodically when I needed to get small lettering that is clear.

No way to do it with pure photoshop?

Actually, the trick is using a montype font with no anti-aliasing. That font on my page is called something like SevernetSeven(sp?), and it is designed to be viewed at only 8 pixels tall, no aliasing. There are several fonts like this out there, search using the keyword 'monotype', or 'pixel'.

Ziggen.com had this site for monotype fonts listed as site of the week. I checked it out and it looks pretty groovy!

Great link Doc, thanks. I think the font you're referring to is Sevenet and all the links I found for it were dead I did find a link to Silkscreen, a very similar one here if anyone's interested.
Chris

Silkscreen is great - thanks.
I knowed Mark's tute on small letters... and it works... but try it with a really long text - after three hours pixel-editing you become mad and start to punch your head against a wall... so I think I'll prefer the monotypes...
