I'm new to photoshop and have a couple of basic questions I hope someone will answer for me:
First, I have noticed that after time, ps images tend to disinegrate. Is this the nature of images posted on the web or are the people creating the graphics doing something wrong? Is there anyway to stop this from happening?
My second question is that I have been creating some images in ps and they look ok on my computer. Do I need to check them with other browsers etc? I am afraid to put them up-could they look great on my computer and be all broken up, jaggedy edged etc on other peoples?

PS
Doc-your graphics and tutorials are amazing-even a newbie like me can follow along and I am so inspired by what I see. Thank you!!!

Well, they should look mostly the same on your browser and also on others. You should look at things on other machines, but mainly to be certain that your webpage is set up proper, not too wide for normal browsers, no coding errors, etc...
I'm confused about what you said with PS images deteriorating over time? Like, they get posted, and somehow get worse the longer they're left on the shelf? That doesn't make sense. An image CAN degrade if you were to save it, and then open the gif or jpeg, do stuff to it, save it again, over and over, it'd end up like something that went through the copier too many times. For this reason I always refer back to my original photoshop working file, saved in native PSD format, no compression (default). Other than that problem, I'm one confused camper.

Hi Doc-wow 1:30 am & your still working!must be all those cigs & coffee . On the disintegrating image, maybe you could look at the website when you have time? It is www.lousblues.com The images have all been up for a couple of years. Originally they all were clear and blended nicely into the background like the ones in the left frame but about three weeks ago, the center frame buttons got all scraggly the way they are now & no one has touched them.

[This message has been edited by 2winspapa (edited 28-04-2000).]

I dunno aok....don't see much of any difference. Pretty much, if a file is going to deteriorate, it's going to do so in a way that will cause problems with opening the file or accessing the file -- the picture quality it's self won't deteriorate just due to time.
What care I how time advances? Perhaps you changed your color scheme so that the images are dithering?

they don't look THAT bad on my browser, but there are a few pixels that don't blend in well with the background. i see you used jpeg files for your images. personally, i like using bitmaps. maybe that might help?
[ace]
