I'm not too sure what went wrong. I think its either the blur you used in the channel didn't go good with the letter thickness, or your curves wern't set properly.
- Dan -

I'ts hard work trying to get this effect good on just a single text,
It may sound a bit tedious, but it's best to do each letter individually, then stick them back together in PS.
The result will be worth it
From the pic it looks like your lighting effect on your screen layer could be tweaked a bit more.

Yes, the 2nd one is definately better -- a little hard edged still though.
There's two things that effect it -- first it's really hard to get lighting effects to work well on large areas like that, it tends to flatten out a little.
Also, he gives really specific numbers for your effect settings, and those numbers will have to change a lot depending on what you're working on and at what size. I would
recommend trying it exactly like he did it (same image size, same font and letter and everything)the 1st time, just to help learn the effect.

Hey, there you go. A little funky somehow, but you seem to have the idea....now you can tweak it to suit your own needs.
As far as Black May.............I'd go back to the drwing board (but that's just my [sometimes not so]humble opinion).

Definately getting there TX F17.........
DL 44's right, getting this effect right means totally understanding each effect, and the result that will have on the next steps.
Check my phong varition post for some tweaking ideas, the fatter the text the harder it is to achieve good depth.
