Doc, how did you create the text next to the glass ball, which is the link to the glass ball tutorial, on your handson index page? Sounds confusing... eh?

Well, it looks like doc created the text in that goldy kinf of colour, but flat, he then selected the whole of the text, and saved it as a channel. In the channel, he selected the whole of the text again, which can actually be done by loading the same channel into itself, and applied the gausian blur filter to about 3-6 pixels, deslected the text, went pack to the layer with the text on it, rendered the text layer so he could edit it, and then applied the lighting effects filter from whichever direction he wanted, although 145 degrees is usually used. Down the bottom there is a drop down box, he would have gone to that and used it to load up the channel he made before, set mountainess to high and tuned the glossiness and exposure up. With the light streaks, that one I don't know, but he could have used the smudge tool to smudge a small white spot out whilst holding down *SHIFT* to keep it constrained to 45 degree angle increments. Does that help?

Actually, that "glare" shape is one of the default brushes in photoshop. Load your "assorted brushes" by clicking on the little arrow on the brushes pallet, go to "load brushes" and then direct it to wherever photoshop is on your computer and go into the goodies folder -- there are 3 more sets of brushes there.
Whether or not Doc used that brush I don't know, but that's the easiest way to get that effect.

Yep, that was one of those cheating little brushes from the "load brushes" selection. I was in a hurry, and it worked just fine for me at the time. I need to re-do the glass text though, that one is weak.
