The Lighting Effects filter... is it a seperate program or part of photoshop itself?
I ask because my image program (Microsoft (rrrgh) Image Composer) seems like it can do most of the things that Photoshop can do, except for this one filter, which is obviously an integral part of all the great graphics I see. And MIC claims that it can use Photoshop filters.
So... it's kind of a long shot, but is it possible that I could get the filter?
(If not, I'll have to use POV-Ray; but it's such a nuisance to save every image and height feild that I want to use in it.)
 |

Lighting effects is a Photoshop filter, not a separate program. I really don't know if it could be taken out of Photoshop and used elsewhere. Most of the time when another program says they can use Photoshop filters they are talking about third-party filters. Not native filters. If you are still willing to try it though, I'm game.
|

When i first started playing with filters i used mostly PSP5. I copied all the filters out of PS4 into PSP5, and some of them worked, some others didnt. Unfortunately, none of the "Render" filters (clouds, diff. clouds, lens flare, lightning effects) worked in PSP. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Adobe took steps to prevent some of their filters being used by other programs... but cant be sure its true. guess your only option is to try.
Never Pet a Burning Dog |

Well, I have both PS 5.5 and PSP 6.0 and I can't seem to get lighting effects to load into PSP. I'm guessing that Doc is right and it has major hooks into the basic program code. Sounds like IE

|

Slime, in PSP 6, you might try using Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Curves, and pull the line down to the block below it. If you have KPT5, you can use ShapeShifter to further enhance spheres. There's a tutorial of a metallic bowl here to show you what I'm talking about: |

Jaded: follow the links in the tutorial: he shows settings for both lights if I remember right. That pre-set doesn't come with PS 5! You can cook it up yourself and save it as your own custom pre-set. |

So slime...when are you actually going to get PS 5.5? It has to be the best graphics prog that you have ever seen. I had some photoshop newbie at my school the other day telling me that I must not actually own anything that I have, becuse I was doing such great graphics, and you can't do s**t with the built-in filters, according to him. Aaahhh..these young whipper-snappers these days. |
