This is an area where I have vitrually no experience (I guess virtually in this case means none huh?) in the area of hand drawn and scanned in text/logo masks.

I'd like to hear from everyone and anyone as to how you go about creating and *cleaning up* those masks so that you get rid of the obvious "hand drawn" artifacts that undoubtedly creep in!

I believe a few members created by hand the masks for the gurus network logo(s) and then DocOzone cleaned them up(?) perhaps you guys wouldn't mind shedding some light on how this was done so we can create our own hand made "gear"!

TIA

Hey Pap! Most of my first logos were all done with a big fat black "sharpy" marker and then scanned in.Here's an old page at http://www.ozones.com/worldfair.html - All of the text here was drawn this way. Once I scan it in (big size) and tweak the setting so it gets to be a good black and white mask, the edges might still be a bit fuzzy. Try blurring it a pixel or two, and using 'levels' to tighten the edges up again. Doing this with a bigger blur will round the dges out more and more. Sometimes, in the original paper version, I'll draw little jaggies on the edges of the letters to give a splatter effect, stuf like that. Play around with this, this is the first step towards learning how to create your own fonts and such, digitized handwriting. Hopefully some others who do this kind of stuff will post here with their tips too!

Wish I knew 2wins....
I made the 1st version of the "puffy" logo shape just by creating marquee shapes for the letters and then cutting out the unwanted sections. Doc went into illustrator and made the version that I had wanted to make but didn't know how...

WOW Doc....I was reading through all of the pages conneted to the link above. Reminds me of the old days. There is far to much to list(in the FAQ area), mainly in the equipment section, and a little of the programs section. It is amazing how far the computer industry has come. That was in 97'!?! Heh, 850meg hd, you were doing pretty damn good Doc(compared to me), I think I had 300meg's or something. Thank god for technology ehh?
