The site could use a nice overhall.

As for the graphic, I would move away from the lightning effect on the symbol, and concentrate on a crisper looking fire effect, that would be sweet.

I am not too sure what the logo does for the clan, as it is, after seeing the logo I had no idea what the clan was, but a vague idea that it was for quake.

The way logo's work, the simpler the better, like the nike, swoosh, or the golden arches, they are great because of the ease of reprintability. Anywhere in the world if you show them a swoosh they will know nike.

For a logo like yours, you will not have the huge marketing like nike does, so people will not know who you are from a layout like you have chosen. Because of that you will have to use letters. That means, spell the clan's name out somewhere on the image, and make it clear so that when people see it, they know who the clan is.

That is how it will work in any business situation. You will want to create something people can see, and say "wow that looks good" along with promoting what ever company you are desinging for.

demons of death valley, eh? i guess death valley is kind of scary, you ever been there? it's more annoying than anything, but that's besides the point.

ok, their original site pretty much sucks the diddick... it's ugly, uses too many lame images, lots of immature word slangage, and features about every lame web design trick you could hope not to find in a web page.

in other words, it looks like every other 'clan' page on the internet.

the graphic you made is a step up from the rest of the stuff on their site... but it's pixelated as hell, blurry in others, kind of too big, and honestly it's just a bunch of filters overused.

so what would i recommend? i dunno, clean up the graphic and try to come up with something more original? then again, that sort of stuff pretty much works well in the whole 'clan' world.

I totally agree with you! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> But not all clans have bad layouts. For instance take my clan, Fallen Angels. The URL is http://www-fallen-angels.net The layout was made by $hiznitt and i think its awesome. What do u guys think?

If you're planning on ever making graphics comercially, don't quit your day job. Then again, you're probably only 13....

First, for the main symbol thingy, its pixellated as fuck, the fire and lightning look pathetic, not to mention to poorness of the shape of the symbol.

quote:
I just made a clan logo for this guy.

Seems like you stole the image to me....

After stealing the image from the main quake page (http://www.idsoftware.com), you resized the image by about 500% to its current state. Then of course, came the gaudy filters.

For the size of the logo, the letters on top are far too small. The colors do not fit with the symbol at all, and that messy white outer glow does nothing for me. The bottom text is done decently, but should be resized to fit the image, and moved down below the symbol.

So basically, your "image" is a piece of shit. You stole it from the quake site, resized it, and applied several overused and ugly filters to it. The dimensions are totally wrong, and the collor palette shows no cohesion amongst the parts of the image.

technically he really didn't steal the quake image though. everyone uses it and that's not a big deal to incorporate it into your graphic, but it could be done so much better than it is...

as for mbridge, yes now that the board has someone that's a bigger asshole than i am.. i don't feel so bad when i go off on some people. but i've never seen any of your stuff mbridge, or maybe i have.. i'm just curious where you're coming from.

oh, and i just checked out www.fallen-angels.net or whatever. actually not that bad, i'd give it maybe 6 out of 10 stars or whatnot... there's a lot i could nitpick about, but considering how bad those sites usually are... not horrible.

back to making designs for ravers.. ugh.

I believe my friend intends to use the eye for mouseovers or something...not sure on the specifics, he just ask me to create an eyeball. First is the large version to show detail, second is scaled down for actual use (It will probably be scaled down more if its actually used). Ignore background colors, as they may clash with the image (I had to slap the images on a background, my friend and I usually just pass .psd's)

Next is the first draft of a logo I made for the site, an interface will follow if he likes it.

To be honest I know very little of what a "clan" is. I dont play computer games at all, the only one I own is "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" , which is really my little sisters but I use it more then she does...

In general though, the image sucks. See all the past comments, I dont feel like repeating them. Cr0n0, I think you should take a good look at some of the tags on your clothing, sporting goods, and whatever else you have lying around. Im sure you'll notice a common theme, there all simple and plain. I doubt you'll see many logos out there that are more then 2 or 3 colors. The point of this like said before is so they can be reproduced easily and can be recognized. I think if this "clan" as you call it is looking for a logo, you should find something that fits the "clans" name and is simple and plain. Theres nothing worse then looking at an ugly colored image all day long, especially if thats going on there website where all there visitors are going to be seeing it.

Also I checked out that fallen angels or whatever website. It was pretty nice, I wasnt overlly impressed but Ill say it was nice. One thing that bugged me a little bit was the fact that there was about three different styles of text used on that main page alone. Things like that just bother me.

Ummmm Cr0n0, you mentioned that you are making them a new layou, are your HTML skills just as good as your Photoshop skills?

Hey mbridge i really like your work a lot! Any chance you live some where around New York, Long Island?
Or hell, any of you live around there??? <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Actually, I know some people save some of their works as an action. If you could find these people and have you send them their actions, well then you would be in luck because it would be just like watching them do it, you would just have to analysis it.

Sorry I don't save work as an acton...

I live in Michigan and I'm going out of town tomorow. If you're interested, I might find the time to write up a quick tutorial on one of those images. Or maybe send you the .psd (what am I thinking? I guess I'm in a good mood today!) for one of them.

Not to sound like an ass or anything... But I just can't get this out of my mind now. Arn't eye balls white? I mean, and theres just some color in thr front center? Thats kind of bothering me. Because that eye is all blue. I'm also assuming that those white spots are light reflecting.. correct me if Im wrong, but wouldn't the light hit them both on the same edge, so they would either both be top right, or both be top middle? Thats because they're on the same angle and stuff.. Then again, should there really even be one on the black part?

I like the logo you made though, it looks quite professional. Looks like it would look very nice on a flash based site.

Just to clear it up--That's only an iris and pupil. It is not a full eyeball (obviously). Eyeballs are more of an oval shape, with a circular (like my image) iris. As for your comments on reflections, I try to get away from the single light source that plagues photoshop. In real life, there are several light sources-for instance in this picture, I simulated an overhead light, a lamp, and windows. And yes, light does reflect off the black pupil because of the cornea (it's clear) that covers the pupil. I will concede that I should probably make the the reflection off the pupil slightly less intense and make my reflections as a whole more irregular.

OK, Cr0n0 first. Hmm, it *is* pretty harshly pixelated, especially on the quake symbol, was that intentional or what? If not, the first thing you're going to have to do is track down a high-rez version of the quake shape and clean it up to make your own black and white mask. Once you have that, you can start working on it properly, seeing about incorportating it into your DVD message. The Clan should be the most prominent message here, most of the folks seeing it will already know you're a quake clan, that should need to be the bulk of the image. Try and work on the death valley aspect, combined with demons. The "dvd" shapes are done well, but don't really hold together for me. Keep working on it, maybe some desert imagery could work? Dead cow skulls? You get the idea, do something cool with it.

The fallen-angels site was OK, nice layout, but a few things bothered me. The mouseover effects, jig-jag in and out, that wasn't so smooth, I probably would've left the type where it was, kind of disconcerting and hard to keep track of where I was. What's up with the width of the page? On my Netscape 4.72 Macintosh, at 832x624, it was maybe 1600 pixels wide, weird. Better look into that one.

The eyeball image was pretty cool, I thought. I might have rathered just had a link to the reallyu big one though, no need to post such a huge image, these threads can get kind of long sometimes. I wasn't following what was going on at the end, posts clipped? I ran out of server space earlier today, maybe you were the post that ran me over my limit. All fixed now, for the time being at least!

OK, back to your bickering now! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif">
