Hi, I'm the Penguin King. You might remember me from such tutorials as "Randomly Generated Terrain Maps in Photoshop" and "Randomly Generated Terrain Maps in Photoshop II". Today I'm here to -

*urk!*

Sorry 'bout that. Bad Simpsons referrence. As you may or may not recall (and may or may not care), I was here a while back with a tutorial about randomly generating maps in photoshop to have critiqued. I'm back, this time with an extension to that tutorial that allows one to create "planet" graphics using those maps. An example:

As before, I'm look for criticism, suggestions, and/or bizarre rants on the subject. The URL is http://www.dlcwest.com/~proko/tut3.shtml

Lots of stuff. You can make a background of a logo or somethink with that just half to make it less bright is all.

To your why, I ask: why not?

Seriously, though, the actually-useful tutorial is the one that preceeds this one. You know, the one about the randomly-generated terrain maps? I'm sure you can see the utility behind being able to whip up random terrain maps with five minutes of work, which is basically what the previous tutorial shows you how to do. This one (and all the ones that will follow it, eventually) are demonstrations of precisely what one can *do* with a random terrain map. A spiffy planet graphic, a spinning globe... my next tut will demonstrate how to use the random map to make "satellite photographs".

Good point P.K. ... especially the point about "why not?" Its always good to know how to do things, you never know when something is going to come up where you need a randomly generated terrain map and what not. Well again, well written tut, ever think about helping out with the Guru's Network? http://www.gurusnetwork.com see the Guru's Network thread for info k?
