To resize the brush click on Window, and then Brushes. Pick what brush you want there.

If you are a beginner do check out the tutorials on this page and any else you can find. There are a LOT of beginner tutorials out there. Also real the manual...there is a lot of good info there also.

Your brush pallet should be open by default, and you can just click on the brush you want to use. If none of the brushes fit your needs, you can create your own (click on the little triangle on the brushes pallet). You can define the pixel size, the softness, and some other things. Also check out the "options" pallet when you select the paintbrush and you can set a few things there.

Any pallets that are not open, you can go to the "window" menu and open them anytime. Don't expect photoshop to behave like any other program, it simply won't! It's frustrating at first but trust me, that kind of stuff will be 2nd nature before long.

If you really want to get into photoshop you should learn the hot keys. They help a lot, and make the job fly. x and d are examples, reset your colors back to black and white.

ctlt,shif-i for inverse selection.

Play attention to these areas and it will start working much faster.
