Hi,
New `kid-on-the-block' here...:-). Am taking a hands-on class in photoshop....need the program to study at home, but not working so can't afford the retail price. Found someone on an auction site selling PS 5.5 & Illustrator 8 for $75.....any ideas if that might be a ripoff?

Replys appreciated, thanks....

If it's an auction site, it could very well be the real thing. Do they say it's the actual CD, and not a copy? Does it come with the manuals? You can email the person selling the item usually and always ask them... then, if they lie to you, you can report it to the auction site.

Reply to Human Shield:
Thanks for writing... The individual apparently specializes in graphic software. Emailed response states that he has several he no longer uses, are legally registered, and some have manuals/some don't. I checked ZDnet's evaluation version, and they list the retail price @$649. It's the price difference that makes me wonder, especially for someone who `specializes'.
I can for sure make good use of the program(s), but when you're not working.....well, I try to be careful where my bucks go...

Like humansheild said thuogh -- if it's through an auction site and it's not legit, you can get reimbursed and the person can get in some pretty serious trouble (pirating software can gain fines of up to $100,000 per title plus jail time).

Post to DL-44. I knew about the fines for pirating, but not about the reimburse. The last email I sent was on Monday asking about registration codes and no response since; so have elected to pass. I'll find another way... thanks for the responses everybody.

Can't say for sure, but that looks like a standard layer effect set to color dodge and multiply. Probably about 3 pixels.
