Preserved Topic: new user (need i say more?) (Page 1 of 1)

Hey guyz,
I just got Photoshop yesterday 'cuz i am a programmer and I wanted my next program to look good. I have read MANY tutorials and i have learned the basics.
I want to learn how to make 3-D text and stuff like that. I read the tutorial for "sky taffy" and i can do up to where you use lighting effects for the first time. I can't use lighting effects!! Why iz it not enabled?

Did you select the layer before you did lighting effects? This is just a shot in the dark, but the tutorial doesn't appear to tell you to select your layer again (top layer, that is). Do this by clicking on the layers tab, then on your top layer.

If thats not it, please explain in more detail your problem.
