I am running a Power Mac 9600/200 with OS 9. Since upgrading to 9 many months ago, I am finding it impossible to work in PhotoShop except in the most basic way. I can't use the eraser, cloning stamp, etc. without the system freezing. No error message, no escaping PhotoShop. Rebooting is the only escape. I have turned off system extensions, PhotoShop extensions and plugins, all to no avail. The problem still exists. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It's driving me crazy!

This problem is very easy to fix: get a PC.

Wrooooong.

Sorry. I don't have any answers (I stayed with 8.6), but my friend Steve-o's is not an option!

Wonder why some stuff would work but not others?

Have you had any problem w/ other apps? Have you resorted to re-installing PS? Does Photoshop have any extentions? I don't think so. Any third party stuff involved - RamDoubler or anything that plays games with the OS?

"Upgrading to 9"

Did you do a clean install on your hard drive, or was it merely an overlay of OS 9 over your 8.6 or whichever?

Typically, overlaying operating systems causes problems. I'd back up all your material, and do a clean install if you can. It's only then that you will be able to find out if the problem is your OS, or your PS.

Hope that helps, even a bit.

Peter

I always figured there was a psychic awareness thing going on there - otherwise you'd always be tripping over the rakes in that Dark Garden, eh?

Hey, who you calling a hoe, bitch?

You can do a clean install of OS9 on the same hard drive, it'll just rename the old one. Then you can go through afterwards and rescue your favorite "gotta have" extension and such. Carefull at this stage, this is most likely where you'll find the problem.

I have done the clean install three times, reinstalled PhotoShop numerous times and as I believe I stated in the original posting, I have taken all plug-ins out, all extensions out and the problem still occurs.

A basic question, when did this first happen?
Was it directly after upgrading to OS 9 or did this just start to happen within the past week or so?
If it has started recently, what other applications have you recently installed on your computer?
Any problems with viruses?
Have you even done a virus scan?
Dose OS 9 work fine outside of PS or do errors occur only in PS?
