I know this should probably be in the GN section, and better yet on the site itself, but i have some registering problems.
I don't want to be a party pooper, but i noticed that it seems a lot of the pictures used by Steve in the "Backdoor" tutorial were scanned from (or recreated according to) a popular PS book. I juat want to make sure that this is not going to impose a copyright issue. We dont want to get into shit over such things. Steve, please let us know its legal and everything is ok. Any other commets by someone? i might be mistaken.

Hmm, are you saying I should buy more popular PS books? :-) That is definitely an issue, and we should do our best to avoid any copyright issues, we're going to be getting a lot of publicity out of this venture, people *will* notice. I can't compare, cause I don't know what book you speak of, but if so the images should be swapped out.

Yo Rend baby - thanks for the heads up - I gotta find which popular photoshop book is ripping me off!

Seriously man, every image in that tute I took in my little studio in Boston. Well, the boat and sky were Maine, but the girls are my daughters, the wine glasses were a recent digital shoot... what else did I have in there?? The logo showing clipping groups I cooked up just for the tutorial, and yes that's derivative of something David Biedny demonstrated years ago, but not a copy and certainly not stolen images. I haven't looked at it for a few days, but can't think of any other things. I'm as sensitive to copyright as anyone and I sure wouldn't pull a bonehead move like that for the gurus site or any other my friend. I appreciate you keeping your eyes open, and if you do locate that book and the images are too similar I might make a change just so we don't appear to be repeating material someone could find somewhere else, but you may be sure the work I used is original.

I think the problem is that all of the photographs look too professional, they *must* be from a book or something, eh? Rmember all of you, Steve came to this end of the business by being a professional photographer first, that's pretty cool! SO! It's probably just the professionalism of the shots that gives that "haven't I seen something like this before?" feeling. If not, Stevo gets to sue somebody, woo-hoo!

Frankly I don't know whether to be pleased my work was mistaken for something ligitimized by prior publication, or bummed that I didn't have something so cutting edge and individual that it couldn't possibly have been seen before. Sigh. On reflection, I'll go with "pleased" - life's too short.

And to be even more boyant, I'll further choose to be pleased that someone took the time to look at the pictures that closely I think that tutorial is my favorite of the ones I've done so far, so thanks for reading it!

My appologies Steve!!! i really should have checked better before posting here, even though i tried to be sensitive... Its just that i was TOTALLY convinced i seen those pictures in a good PS book in a puter store a couple of weeks ago, which i dont have access to at the given moment. Maybe my imagination has fooled me. Something still looks really familiar to me in them though and if i find the specific book i will check to see what caused me to get this strange Deja-vu. Great tutorial, and again, I'm sorry for the mistake.

Well I'm glad at least it was in a good Photoshop book! And to restate myself, if you do have an opportunity to find the book again and there are in fact striking similarities, to the point where someone might have the same reaction you did, please let us know about it and I'll consider making alterations to what I used just to avoid any scent to impropriety.

As to sensitivity - well I'll admit it was an interesting wakeup call today! First time I've seen my name in a topic header! You bet it got my attention. And as far as I'm concerned, copyright screwups in general, and on the Gurus site in particular, really need vigilant scruitiny. The last thing we need is some suggestion that we're anything other than squeeky clean. I'm a fairly secure resident of the asylum and I knew what I did on my own and what influences I was quoting (an inside joke was making the "db" logo as an homage to David Biedney), but regardless of the personalities, we need sharp eyes looking out for the reputation of the Gurus site, so keep it up and don't ever hesitate to raise a warning flag, okay?

Sure thing man. Is it possible that the "db" logo was used by David Biedney himself in a book? I wish i had the title so we could ask someone who owns it to check for similarities. I will try to check it in the book store next week.
