I know the answer for this is in the list somewhere, but I'd like to pretty much say HI! to everyone... Where can I learn how to do a seamless texture? I'm enjoying Photoshop, just got it not long ago, I use to read this list and dream of owning it
I'm new here for like actually posting, but I've been reading on and off here for quite some time... I'd like to say you guys seem to be the most talented/nicest bunch of lunatics on the planet, and to Doc, YOU ROCK!

i use the built in offset filter. write down your image dimensions. lets say your tile is 50x50. plug in 25 and 25 (half of 50) and make sure the wrap around option is checked. you can see where the edges of your tile will meet and correct it from there.

for some reason, photoshop doesnt always wrap or offset quite right. just cancel it and restart photoshop and try again if it doesnt work the first time. of course, it could be because of fruity win2k

Just another comment you probably know by now - The "clouds" and "difference clouds" filters create seamless textures as long as your pixel dimensions are of base 16 (i think thats the base... gotta check it out)

Rend:

I think it's multiples of 128.

Try this: New document, 256x256
Filter>Render>Clouds
Select All
Define Pattern
New Document (whatever size, just bigger than the pattern!)
Fill, using pattern.

See if it tiles. Should.

Hee hee - doesn't PShop just make yer freekin' socks roll up & down? That bit about clouds tiling in a 128x128 period was one of those zillions of little tidbits you scoop up along the road of life - think I read it on the Metatools site years ago, stashed it in the brain, thought "this'll be handy some day", and so far it hasn't .... but there's always tomorrow!

Since render>clouds is the basic starting point for lots of stone/marble textures I thought someday I'd see if I could make a marble tiling web page background, but haven't tried yet. My guess is once you start mucking around after the basic cloud filter the pattern won't tile smoothly any more, but haven't found out for sure yet.

For textures after you've run the offset filter....remember, RubberStamp Tool, with a Feathered Brush selection is your friend.

Tile edges go bye bye.

And now so do I

Ahh very **** Peter, thanks...
As I said, I'm new and I don't wish to use all these 3rd party plugins, I'd rather KNOW how to make things without the look of 3rd party...
Not saying they aren't any good, just I need to learn without getting lazy (as Doc puts it)

Thanks again guys

actually.. I just got Photoshop yesterday and I haven't slept yet....
I did find a nifty site with all sorts of tutorials and a lot of 'try-it-yourself-ers' it helped me a lot...

it's: www.designsbymark.com (I think) --best of luck..
