Preserved Topic: Just Face It !! (Page 1 of 1)

I've been working on creating custom web interfaces in PS lately. This link is to the beginning of my first all PS interface. I was going for an old iron furnace look. Please, pick it apart and let me know what you guys(and gals <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> ) think. Thanks!!

Your graphic looks quite good for a beginning. I like the overall shape of it as far as you have got... I think your fire could be finessed more, maybe try and make it more suttle.. try bluring it a bit.. or fading it.. it looks just a little to 'clean'

I will be interested in seeing how it develops as you add more detail and also how you will add text to it in order to make it an interface.. maybe you wont use text?..

anyhow.. a good start.. lets us know as you get more done.. I think your off in the right direction <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I have to admit, like an idiot, I clicked on the graphic bef*** I totally read what you said it was supposed to look like. I thought it was two glowing orange bars hovering over a blurry metal thing. Now that I read what it's supposed to be, I have to say that unfortunately, something about the image gives off the look that the orange flames are raised above the surface instead of inside it. Perhaps it's because there is so much detail in the fire, whereas the metal furnace is a big blur. Perhaps it's the shading on the furnace itself, which makes it look like a drop shadow under each flame bit. It needs to look like the light source is coming from inside the furnace.

One other thing to mention... old iron furnaces are generally black. This link I'm giving isn't a furnace, but a stove... but I think it's along the same lines of what I imagine you are trying to portray in your image...

I see what you're talking about HS. On second glance, the whole image looks brighter than I was trying to go for anyway. I'll work on trying to inset the flames and make the iron colouring darker.

Poet, this will just be a small piece of the rest of the interface. This piece, if I have conceptualized correctly, will be at the top with the actual page name hanging by chains from the 2 lower arched corners. The buttons panel will go to the left of this.
