Try this one. Experiment with different gradients and clouds/ difference clouds. Lots of COOL. Rend did a good job with this one; http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/photoshop/lightning.html

Magui:
I think he means the blending mode "Screen"

If you look at the layers palette, at the top of it, you see "opacity" with a number in a text box on the right, while on the left you see a dropdown menu that says "normal" in it.

If you click on that dropdown box you'll see all the types of blending modes you can set your layers to. Screen happens to be one of them. It effectively causes the brighter/lighter areas of your layer to show over layers underneath that are darker, while any darker areas on your layer become translucent and transparent depending on their tone.

There it is..and what it is

Hope it helps.

Peter

When I change the blending mode in 6.0, I have to move the layer at least a pixel before it "kicks in." This is a really annoying bug. Could that be the problem?

Also, make sure you have a layer under the layer you set to screen. If there is not a layer underneath, no change will take place because of the way blending modes (hence, the name) work.

I took the liberty of using this method to make your signature transparent. Here's how I did it:
1. Converted the .gif to RGB Mode
2. Duplicated Background layer
3. Filled Original (Bottom) Background layer with #400404 (average color of the forum bg)
4. Set top layer's blending mode to screen
6. Used a few hue-sat and brightness adjustments on the top layer to make it look as close as possible to your other signature

lol, forgot the picture.

There's a slight border around the image if you look closely. This is because the image has gradients that fade into the background around the edge. In order to eliminate this problem, you'd have to use two different signatures--one for the lighter background and one for the darker background.

It's the only method I know of that get's a perfect edge when trying to put a gif on a new background. Someone amaze me with another method that works equally well...I know someone out there has a better way.

i played a little bit with psp so that's my result. but i don't need two different versions.
bunchapixels: what is the other method to make that gif transparent?
