OK OK... I'm Buying Some Books...

1. Photoshop 5.0 - Wow!
2. Photoshop Artistry

Now Is Where My Confusing Lies...

Should I Buy "Photoshop 6 Bible" Or Buy "Photoshop 6 Special Edition"

One Is By Que (A Company That Makes Good Books) And The Other Is A Bible (Which Is A Good Book Itself) And I Don't Have The Money To Buy Both...

Can Anyone Give Me A Little Direction... I'd Like To Learn Basics And Upward So I'd Like A Book That Explains Much But Also Won't Leave Me Wanting For More When I Need It...

well i ran a HUGE computer section at the local borders bookstore for a while.. honestly i never thought that QUE did a great job with the topic of photoshop. i'm not familiar with 'photoshop 6 bible' either, but i usually distruct anything with 'bible' in the title anyways.

i'd skip those last two books and look for 'real world photoshop 6.' at least i think that's the title... it has "real world" in it at least.

My favorite series of Photoshop books have always been the ones from Adobe Press, the "Classroom in a Book" series. They may not be as heavy on the "Gee whiz, look at *this* neato effect!" parts, they mainly teach you all the basics of layers, channels and mask effects, the true power of Photoshop. Once you know that stuff, all the tutorials you'll run into will be easy for you. Best way to learn, IMHO.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but...
Just last night I bought a book called 'Adobe Photoshop Master Class' by John Paul Caponigro published by Peachpit Press. Though I haven't read it in its entirety yet (just bought it last night) I have skimmed through it and it is the very first photoshop book I have ever found that focuses on the artistic/aesthetic aspects of design using Photoshop. This is not a technical 'how-lto' book but rather something that one would find in an art class. I feel that this is an aspect of photoshop usage that is largely neglected (that is, it is still art) SOOOO...
If you have $50.00 that is burning a hole in your pocket, you may want to pick it up.

i just finished adobe photoshop 6 classroom in a book and it was good on covering basic stuff. i am going to be getting the real world book next. all the bible type books i have read or skimmed through seem to be high quantity, low quality content. i agree with mobrul, books that cover the artistic side are great and you can really learn alot from them.

don't waste your money on books that you'd learn as much, perhaps more, from simply trying stuff in photoshop, tuts, and here...

but if you've got fifty bucks to go spending on books:
PS6 Bible or PS6 Inside are two that give a newbie everything they think they need to know to create simple enough yet effective images and give them a kick start for what they're gonna need to know when they really start using photoshop.

digital art books will almost never tell you exactly how the artist did it, maybe they'll offer a little insight, but they are the best photoshop books you could buy.

I Thank You And Everyone Who So Kindly Helped Me Out In Trying To Figure On What To Buy!

I Am Definitely Getting The Books I Already Noted...

1. Photoshop 5.0 - Wow!
2. Photoshop Artistry

But Went Also With Getting A Used (With CD) Copy Of "Classroom in a Book 6"
(Heh, Kissing Up To The Boss)

I Had An Amount Of Money To Spend, Like $100+ So I Went With Some Stuff To Could Help Me... The Tutorials Are Nice And All But When You Do Them And Nothing Ever Comes Out The Way They Should Look, Well, Then It's Time To Read Up On Stuff!!!

Maybe I'll Put Some Money Towards A Wacom Board Next... But Later...

Heh Heh

Y'know, This Is A Side Effect From Way Back In The Day When I Was Doing Code For BBS And Eventually I Just Got Into The Habit Since It Was Not Only Effective In Coding, But Also In How The BBS Looked...

I Still Do It To This Day

It's Also Sorta A Trademark Since People I Know Can Identify Me...

Though Believe Me... It's Hell When It Comes Time For Term Papers!

Is It Really Annoying? Though I Doubt I Would Stop... It's Just A Built In Habit Now...

The best two PS books I've come across are:

1) Phoshop 5(+) Bible
2) Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a book

I highly recommend the Bible series. Awesome books.
