I am running PS 5.5 on Win2000 in my office. I only use it to goof off with. Nothing major. WAhat Ive been doing lately is downloading coloring book pages in gif format and coloring them with ps. I change them to rgb mode and then use the magic wand to select out the areas and then fill them with color. Well the last few days when I select SOME areas it will select the whole canvas. The areas are clearly defined with no wholes in the line around them.

Any ideas on this? The settings for the wand are Tolerance=32, Anti Alias and Contiguous checked, use all layers not checked.

I hope you have some suggestions.

if you check "use all layers" it should work just fine. You probably have an image with several layers, and the layer you have selected contains nothing, so then the whole image will be selected when you use the magic wand.

or else just flatten the image and use the setting you have.

Thanks. But the layer that I am on is the background. And its the line drawing. I will try your suggestion though.

Try dropping the tlerance down to something really small: like 3 or 5. If the original is a white background with black outlines, all you are trying to grab is the white, so the tolerance can be really low.

Ever consider "painting outside the lines"?

I think only Russell Brown is authorized to do that.
