Is there any easy way to make a long line of dots? ( ....................... etc.) Not sure if it would be just as easy to use the type tool and just render it.
I am wanting to use them kind of like making scan lines or a grid by using channels and then define pattern. Everytime that I do it though, the pattern comes out really bad. If this doesn't make sense I can demonstrate what I am doing.

Thanks,

make one dot, just the way you want it, select the dot, and go to edit > define pattern.

Then, make a slection as long as you want, and go to edit > fill > pattern > [your pattern]

This will fill your selection with the pattern that you defined.

Make a small dot with the circular marqee tool or however.

Use the rectangular marquee tool to select approximately 1 pixel extra around the circle.

Edit > Define Pattern

Make a rectangular marqee that stretches the entire width of the canvas and about 2-3 times the height of the pattern.

Fill with the pattern.

Trim the edges of the excess dots.

Bah! That always happens to me!

I type up an answer, only to find that someone has beat me to it, while I'm typing it, heh!

Alternative: increase the spacing setting on one of the hard-edged brushes. Click once. Hold down shift and click again where you want the line of dots to end. Will take some expreimenting to get the spacing right.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason I have not had much luck getting the desired look when using the "Define Pattern" on this one.
Going to try Steves idea and read the G.N.'s tut.

Thanks again.

Gimme cookie...?

Could you post one of your attempts and explain what it's supposed to look like? I've been mauling this over and I just can't quite figure out what you are looking to do. It sounds like a job for Define Pattern and brush spacing (not in that order). But I'm not sure.

So, please, demonstrate what you are doing.

This is how I do that:

- Start any HTML editor
- Use <HR> tag
- Use stylesheet
- Example for the black line on white background:
<HR style="height: 1px; width: 500px;color: #000000; background-color: #FFFFFF; border-style: dotted;">
(here you can set your height and width)
- Save file
- Open html file in browser
- Print screen
- Start Photoshop
- Paste
- Carefully select dotted line
- Crop it!
- Here ya go, a perfect dotted line!

Just kiddin'

warjournal;

just to let you know, Steve's idea is what I needed actually. You were right as well by adjusting the brush spacing and then define pattern I was able to get the desired effect.

Thanks for all the help!
