I'm trying to convert some type to a path in Photoshop 6, but the type uses faux bold so PS will not convert it. Any ideas how to work around this, other than making the paths by hand of course.

I also have illustrator, so if it's not going to work in PS, how about IL?

Thanks,

Thanks WJ, I tried that, but even at .5 tolerance, the font looks like crap. There has to be another way...?

I do know that PSP can do text in vector. There might be a way to get the paths into PS from PSP. I don't know for sure how, but I do know a PSP Guru or two is around here some where.

Maybe if we knew why you want text to Path, someone might be able to come up with a different work-around.

Well, maybe you will get lucky and someone will post a way to do it with Illustrator.

In IL you can just create a path with the pen tool or whatever then click on the path with the text tool and start typing.. the text will follow the path. I don't think PS allows text on a path... yet.

Wow, I've got some crazy responses, let me try again.

I made a logo with Photoshop 6 on my PC. It has some text, the company name to be specific. The whole logo, with the exception of the text is in the form of a path. This allows me to adjust the size without loosing detail in photoshop. But more importantly I can export it as Paths to Illustrator.

The problem is I don't have a current version of Illustrator on my PC, but I do on my Mac. And the font I used on the logo is for Windows only, not Mac OS. So I can get the whole logo over to my Mac, but not the text.

So I'm not trying to put text on a path or anything like that. I just want to make the text into a path, that way I can export the path to illustrator and open it on my Mac version of Illustrator.

I tried loading the text as a selection (which is exactly what warjournal was suggesting by the way) and making a work path out of it. I also made sure the tolerance was set to .5, but it's just not good enough.

Photoshop can convert type to paths, but not if they use faux bold, which the font I used does. So, I'm looking for a way around this limitation. Or a way to get the font (true type) on my Mac.

Thanks

Dude, sounds like you are up the creek.

EPS/DCS ??? But I don't really know about those things.

All I can really think of is that you might get lucky with PSP.

I`m going out on a limb here, but paths are fully editable. You can use the selection saved as a path as a base and adjust the path to fit with the direct selection tool and even the convert point tool if drastic adjustments are necessary. I think PS 6 will even save it as a clipping path if you want.

Is there lots of text ? Like detail work ? give it a shot.

try a font utility app to convert a PC font to a Mac font.
I've had some success with them in the past...can't recall the name of the one I used tho...

You were asking if it could be done in Illustrator, right? On mac, with type selected: command + shift + O (that's the letter not the number). On PC, I don't know, probably alt+shift+O or control+shift+O.
