I am in the process of designing a CD cover that will feature my band and we want to (not me the other guys in the band) put our faces on top of Mount Rushmore. I know this has been done before and most of the time done very cheesy looking.

I want to create on that looks as real as it can get. Now if I cant do it, Im prepared to pay someone to do it for me as all I care about is "THE BEST" looking image that can be used.

Anyone interested, or that can help, please email me!

thanks alot!
Rob

Slow down wj. Does he want flesh and blood heads, or carved granite heads? I worked for a while before giving up at turning a photo into a statue. Not as easy as you might think. I haven't given up, but I haven't cracked it yet.

Go slow, confident compadre.

I also know that Docile Bob has an awesome sig with what you're describing. It looks very good if I may say so although, it's really small too. It's hard to say what it's look like close up but, know DB's work, I'm sure it'd be great close or far.

I can do the extraction. Piece of cake.

And I'm fairly positive I can do stone skin. Been awhile since I've done it, so I will have to brush up a bit. I got fairly good at texturing faces, but not quite as good as my extraction skills.

Even if I don't do this for Radical Rob, it might be fun practice.

Hmm...

I spent a lot of time getting to know the colours and how they fit together. 'Course, I picked a piss-poor subject. Glasses and a goatee. Not too sure if I can stone the goatee, but I'm sure I can paint out the glasses or make them look better or something. Like I said, it's good practice. I'm sure I'll eventually give up on this exercise and assimilate Mt. Rushmore. I wish I had a bigger pic of Rushmore to work with.

I don't think it's too bad for a first attempt.

That`s nice WJ. The glasses are a little incongruous ( I spelled that wrong, didn`t I ?) but it blends pretty well. Just taking the reflection off would go a long way towards smoothing it out.( the frames would be stone, no glass ) some texture work and you`re in.

silence:

Mostly it`s some clone stamp and lot`s of air brushing, then some dodge and burn, with a sprinkle of smudge, on a couple layers over the original.

Just pay attention to the textures on the other faces, and mind the light source.
Then * carve out * the rock face around it with the same methods to blend it into the hill.

wait just a minute here.....

I know I don't post often in the asylum, (lurker! lurker!) but this post has me a little concerned. I think that it would be important for mr. "radical rob" to perhaps disclose what his full intentions and the nature in which a graphic that has his band members replacing the faces of Mt. Rushmore will be used for. The reason that I think that this is so important is that he stated that it will be used on a cd cover for his band.

When I checked out his site, under the bio section for "Way Out West Enterprises", I came upon this:
________________________________________________________

"1993 - Jimmy Da Geek "So So Haolified" KCCN FM100 Dj James "Jimmy Da Geek" Bender came to the Way Out West Studios to work on a solo album which contained paodies of songs such as "Gambler's Paradise", "Let's Go Cock fighting", and "So So Haolified"
________________________________________________________

It is the "so so haolified" that bothers me. I have never heard this "parody" song, and perhaps he may want to post the lyrics, but I have serious reservations about his intentions. Haole, for those that don't know, is a racial slur. I can only (prematurely) conclude that the nature of this "parody" song is also racist, and it concerns me to think that the asylum may contribute (graphically) to an organization that might openly promote racism and intolerance mixed with anti-American sentiments.

ok, here comes my bitterness.................
Many people will say that "Haole" is not a racial slur. Then what does "beat up haole day" mean, exactly? This word is also frequently used in sentences such as ... "go home to the mainland, you fucking haole" and "what the fuck are you looking at, haole?" to name but a few. Haole also has a few modifiers for extra effect or meaning, as in "stupid haole", or, another personal favorite, "fucking haole(s)". Way Out West Enterprises has no qualms in boasting on their website that they produced this song, therefore, I believe that an explanation as to the meaning of this song is not asking too much. So what does "haolified" mean?

(I guess I am just a "dumb fuckin' haole" for not knowing......)

Parodies are real funny. Ha ha.

Oh and if one happens to be of another "race" other than "haole", don't despair, you too can be the recipient of racism and bigotry! See, in Hawaii they believe in equal opportunity slurring. There are unique slurs for all Asian countries of origin, as well as Western Europe. Just ask him what a "portagee" is. Ask him what an African American is referred to as, and the answer is "popolo", coined after a Hawaiian word for a "black" seed. Hey, maybe that will be the topic of his next "big hit" parody! And let's also not forget that quite a few Hawaiian words are used specifically to sexually objectify and degrade women of all "races".

ANYWAY, I have a few concerns, and a lot of bitterness, obviously. Racism on any level towards anyone disgusts me personally; I am literally feeling sick now. If I have jumped the gun, so to speak, I apologize. However, I cannot expect to sleep well tonight if I keep these concerns to myself... and if I have to stick my foot in my mouth, well, it won't be the first time.

Racist huh.... ouch. FYI I am a producer for my own independant record label and digital recording studio. I get paid to perform and record work for clients as probably some of you here do. And speaking of my "Haole" friend Jimmy, give me a break. He is so haole its not even funny. And for those that dont know, haole is another term for "white person".

I've lived in Hawaii for over 30 years and this is the most racialy diverse place that I have ever been to. We have Hawaiians, Haole's, Afro Americans, Mexicans, Philipino's, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and jsut about every race you can think of here so dont go throwing around words like "racist to me."

Back to the CD cover, the group that I am in is called "Sudden Rush" and we were going to make a sign in front of Mt. Rushmore with the more and Mt. scratched out with Sudden above it. We have deeper issues that we cover in our music and believe me, they are all valid. I invite any and all of you to take a good look at exactly how Hawaii came to be the 50th state. We didnt exactly volunteer to be a part of the United States.

That being said, all I want is the best quality work and again, I do not mind paying someone to do it right. And yes we want concrete looking faces not pictures with an opacity of 40% placed on top of the existing Mt. Rushmore.

thanks people!

oh and by the way, I am Hawaiian, Chinese, Haole. (my haole part consists of Indian, French, German)
and the parody song was a big joke anyways. All he talked about was eating macaroni and cheese and
other stupid things about hawaii.

Haole is just a word. Plain and simple. It's the way in which it's used that gives it meaning at all. It's just like the word white or the word black. They're just words, but they can definitely be used in some racial ways. Does that mean black and white are racial slurs?

Your attention, lotiss, should be more focused towards people instead of words. People can be racist, words are just words.

Popolo is one way the Hawaiian people had of describing these dark skinned people who came to their islands. Before that, they had no concept of any other races because they lived on an island. Does that mean that they are calling black people "nutty"? No, it is just a word they made up within the context of their own understanding.

And as far as "many words degrading and sexual objectifying women", I can name you quite a few english ones. In fact, I'm betting there are more of those words in the language I'm posting in than in the Hawaiian language at all.

You see, before the island was discovered, Hawaiians really didn't have any notions of racism because no other races existed. You know who brought those notions? I'll give you a hint, they're also the same people who introduced several communicable diseases for which the people had no natural defenses.

You know what, racism bothers me too. But seeing it when it's not there is something that bothers me a lot more.
