I would like to know how to create a globe looking type image somewhat similar to that of the Glass tutorial globe on Handson. But I didn't get it because it wasn't specific enough on how to create the Mask and which things to apply the filters to and I just didn't get it. May you please help me? Sorry if this seems like a basic question I am still learning.
Sincerely,
John

It's hard to help you unless we know exactly where the tutorial is breaking down for you. Explain in detail what you're having problems with and hopefully we will be able to help.

By the way, welcome!

Well, if you just weren't able to understand the different principles the Doc was talking about then I suggest you start with the basic tutorials.

Start with Drop Shadows.
Then move onto Transparency, and Transparency 2.
Then the Nifty Little Inset Bars.
Then Lighting Effects 1 through 4.
Then Texture Wraping
Then The Glass Tute.

If all else fails, ask away

Hello YoYo! If you don't get the Handson tuts, can't do anything for ya. I would suggest not giving up, and to presevere. However, mebbie you just can't do Handson (who Knows?). Here is a link to what you want - glass sphere htttp://www.phong.com I really wish that you would first try to work through the Handson tuts first.

Welcome to the loonie bin.

If you just want a globe, With the marquee tool, (The round one ), hold CTRL, and drag a circle. ( the CTRL thing keeps it a perfect circle ).

Then select the gradient tool, set the gradient white to black (press d to set the default B/W colors )

Then with the round selection still active, click at the point of light reflection, and drag to the opposite edge of the circle and release. TA DA ! The distance you drag will affect the shading on the sphere, so play till you get the look you want.

Making it glassy involes lots of variables, like light source intensity, type of glass, color , transparency, etc.

If you post your attempt, and be more specific about what you are looking for, we can be more help.
