Well, if you don't know much about design/lay-out and stuff, you are looking at a heap of trouble.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you mean a piece of paper with burnt edges and the text on the paper (the way you describe is backwards I think). Let's see... http://www.treeloot.com/play/info/halloffame/index.html watch out for the pop-up. Like that, but burnt instead of curled, right?

For something like that, you are going to have to know about making tables dynamic with fixed and percent cells.

Then there's the graphics. The corners should match where they meet the borders and the borders should be tilable. The tiles will be fairly decent sized. Then it's a matter of figuring out how many reps per page (height and width, but mostly height) depending on content. You don't want to squish the content, but you don't want too much white space.

It's very similiar to doing rounded corners with a table, but a bit more complex.

Umm...

edit: Percentages? Not if the edges are to line-up. What was I thinking? All fixed.

Actualy this is for printing out not webdesign. Sorry I wasnt specific about that. I tried to mess around with some other techniques for the burning edges but nothing came out clean and realistic looking.

Ok, if it's for print then you should really save your self some trouble and do what most pro's would do.

Get some paper and some matches, they don't cost much.

Spend some time burning the paper untill you have what you want. Then light the paper correctly (use your desk lamp with a peice of white cloth accross it if you have to) and take some photo's.

Take the photo into PS and then put the text on it. Simple and realeastic

Man, Drac, your killin me. That is fuunnneeee! Uhh, if it's for print, I think you are in the wrong section (I could be wrong with this) but see print graphics. Or you could take warjournals advice, it's pretty good. Or you could do it like Drac! Uhh, BTW Drac, you got clones runnin' around in your cell, too? Pesky little bastards. You hear all that ranting and raving comin' from the east wing? Think it's krets, but I'm not sure. Somthin' bout 'Damn krotch-monkeys!' I think. Who's making all these clones? And why? It's a mystery...

I think it's an appropriate question for the Photoshop forum. It should stay here.

And it's been pretty well answered. Did you happen to follow this thread a while back?

OK, assuming you are using photoshop to get the results, try this. Get some heavy dark paper. Construction paper and tear the edges the way you want your "burnt edges" to be shaped. Scan and save it. Open that in photoshop and use your wand tool to select it. Do an inverse. Now you have your "edge" (NOTE: higher tolorance settings will remove the little hairs paper has where it's been torn.) Now that you have your edge, make a new layer, if you want the outer part of your page burnt off do an inverse again and fill with black. If you want the inner part burnt out, just fill with black. You can actually get a burnING edge look by playing around with orange and yellow paint airbrushed on to your "edge." Various filters and such can help make that glow. Hope this helps.

PS, I have a torn edge effect on my site. Not a burnt edge but you should get an idea if you look. http://artmakersworlds.com Go to paintings, Or just click here. http://artmakersworlds.com/space.html

Actually, I was thinking that r@m's rust tutorial would work for burnt paper if you use different colors. The tut is here

Try it out with black, red and orange to try and get the burnt paper effect you want. You'll also have to play with the settings to get things exactly right.
