I am looking to create banners that hang down from the rafters, similar to those in the top left of the screen at this link: http://www.blizzard.com/war3/

Anyone have a tutorial for the texturing and whatnot for this type of banner?

Looks like a bit of airbrush work to me. Mahjqa had a banner sig competition a while back and I think docilebob had a really good entry so I'll let one of them help you out.

I agree with silence. The example in the upper left corner looks air brushed. There`s no distortion in the texture. The black one on top seems to be another banner strung over the first one. The one on the right looks displaced

For a more realistic look, I would use a diplacement map shadowed in the shape you want to contort the banner into. you can do this either with the selection tools or the air brush on a greyscale channel, copy it into a new document and save as a .PSD, then use that for your Dmap.

does that make sense ?

With more info on what you`re doing, I can be more specific.

I hate it when people assume I`m stupid.

At least give me a chance to prove it.

Ya, I think I got it now.... I messed around with some brushes, and I used a variation of the "canvas" filter from the texturizer. It came out pretty good. I just used the airbrush and some funky brushes to get my ragged edges and shading.

BTW, can someone post the link to the banner sig competition that silence was talking about? I would like to see what everyone did.

Thanks again...

OMG!!! I'd just like to point out the effort the designer that link Acid posted : http://www.blizzard.com/war3/ went to to make that page liquid! Pay close attention to the castle imagery at the top. That's some nice work IMO.

Took a quick look , but didn`t find the thread. It was a sig challenge, so many have prolly removed the pics from their servers.

Here`s mine

*every* subsite on blizzard is equally fantastic, just like their games. the coding is just amazing on their front page (it even works for ie3). i am always in awe when i view the bliz sites.
