Preserved Topic: small inages with fine detail??? (Page 1 of 1)

hello one and all,
I was brousing through some of the old posts and came accross a lightsaber that someone made. I dont exactly remember who (sorry) but it stirred up some questions so i went and quickly tossed a lightsaber together. (im at work and PS isnt one of my jobs ) anyways what is the trick to making the small images so detailed. should I start out big and resize when im done? whats the trick?

here is what i made really quick. its not the best but you get the jist of it. and sorry bout the background its black.

The trick, graffix, is to do the detailing at the pixel level. Get a 1x1 pixel brush or the pencil tool and start working. That's also the way to get crisp text.

For example, I used the pencil to do the text on my sig below as well as the picture of the buckyball molecule.

Alright thanks guys i have a project for when i get home from work. although ive never really worked at pixel level before it should be a challenge.

I will post the outcome for all to pick apart when its finished.

hehe yeah its damn hard to get that kinda detail ... i've also been trying this...i dunno how weadah does it

Try importing this in PS and zoom in pretty much. or get some material from http://www.tryptych.net/psygnosis/ . try starting big (2x) and sizing it down, but when you've done that, you'll most likely have to clear up some details by hand (by pixel)

gosh i suck, ok, when i size it down, it blurs everything to make it look clean, but then it blurs all the detail. is there any way to turn that off or size it a different way?

I never start big and size down....I always work at the final size. just had better luck that way.

Like mahjqa says...you'll have to do some cleaning up. for starters, try 'sharpen' and 'unsharp mask'

they'll help, but you'll still have to do some work by hand.

Hey you [insert several insulting words here]! That?s mine! I said you should import it in PS, but just to see how it looked and how you could do it yourself. NOT to steal it, ruin the green, resize it and put it on an awful yellow background! I hope this is a misunderstanding?
