Hi all. I'm new to the forum but have been reading it for a while. Anyway i'm doing a site for a guy that deals in wood panneling. Know of any good tutorials working with wood?

Seems to me that if he deals in wood paneling, his customers would like it much better if they actually see what they are paying for.

However, if you want to make wood in Photoshop,

Try : http://www.grafx-design.com/10photo.html

or

http://www.designsbymark.com/pstips/misc_woodtex.shtml
or

I would suggest POV-Ray if you're going to be doing anything complicated.

Here's an example of a wood texture I often use: http://uoeinstein.hypermart.net/torus.gif

I would be happy to post it if you are interested.

threep also tries his hand at talking like '<butthead>':
"heh heh - search for 'wood', or even, heh, 'wood tutorial'. you may find this thread, where the doc says this, heh:

quote:
Heh. I remember when people first started asking me how I got my wood textures, what filters did I use? Basically, I had a digital camera, and there was this woodworkers store that had all kind of cool woods you could buy, in small planks, blocks, what have you. Most of the dark woods turned out pretty bad, but the oaks and the pines turned out great! So did the birch, nice effect there. Than I used photoshop to make it all tile, all while tweaking the saturation and levels, brightness and contrast to get a good effect. I find the realest looking things on screen are heavily exagerated in terms of contrast, at least that's my personal style. Still, the best natural effects come from NATURE, it's been doing it longer. Raw material is raw material, what you do with it is what counts.

heh heh heh... keep looking, and you may see some of the best documentation for wood inlays that i have ever seen... heh heh heh... "

There is a default action that comes with PS that you might consider pulling apart.
