Preserved Topic: Opinions on interface idea (Page 1 of 1)

Hey,

I was wondering if you could take a look at the idea I have for an interface .

When I first made it I was quite happy with it, but as I look at it more I am not so sure. It is set for 640 by 480, but I am wondering if I should go bigger (800X600). the problem at this size is too much blank space on 1024x748. Also, I am interested if you see the top nave bar as blue as a more purplish color. In PS it is blue, with the windows view in PS it is blue, but my PS monitor view is purplish and darker and not quite what I want. It is not enough to put in site review so I figured this was the place.

the upper mouse over looks like the home button and the side menu (not really liking the placement) rollover is my schedule.

threep doesn't like posting any negative views on a picture without saying how he believes it can be improved, so thinks for a while, and then comments.
all he can come up with is:

or maybe its just the fact that there's no body content yet. ill be interested to see on how you plan on incorporating that into the design.

your pictures aren't working for me though, it looks to me like you just threw a dozen gaussian blurs in there for good measure.
the information layout seems quite good - just by reading each option, i seem to have a pretty good idea of what each click would have to offer.
those lines in the tope buttons look out of place - the only lines you have on the entire page.

I kinda understand what you are getting at 3P.

the top menu is a sort of representation of a sheet of curling ice, which has those lines on it. Not sure where I would put more lines (though there art some behind it). at first I just had a larger desaturated continuous version on the sheet under it, but wasn't too pleased with it, so I did some recolorization and some distorting .

I guess the side menu background is really bugging me, it does sort of look wrong. I did the blurring so it would allow the text to show more clearly over it. I am not sure if the sweepers work there. maybe I should move sub menus up under main and then use some sort of background image under the text. bah. It is largely an informational site with updated schcedules, results, tutorials, info, etc. but at the same time I want it to be visually appealing.

Its just to blurry.......and the colors dont match.

which colors? the sweepers and the top menu or within the top menu? I am pretty sure I am gonna dump the sweepers.

I would make it so it fits on 800x600 displays.
Specifically, you got a LOT of real estate under "overview" so you could
bump seattlewashington up a couple clicks to make it fit.

I'm assuming the top nav bar has some sort of spiffy rollover effect that you aren't implementing yet. If not, I'd consider it.

All in all I find the layout very tasteful... I've always wanted to learn a thing or two about curling -- I got a couple brooms sitting in the garage that might work well :-)
