I am a photographer and have a logo which includes my last name in it.
I use the logo in my business but have not registered it, It was designed for me by a friend who gave it to me as a gift. Since it has been used in my business for a while I think it's pretty safe from being stolen by some else. Does anyone here have thoughts on that. I would like to post it here for Ideas on how to add some extra form and style to it.
Thanks

you best bet is preparing for it to be stolen. One thing you can do to prepare for this is to get your work copyrighted with the US copyright office here, http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/. That will give you a bit of additional legal leverage if it is stolen. I believe that the trademark process is a bit more involved, in what you have to submit, (an exact technical drawing of your logo I thing..) I have heard it takes a considerable length of time and is quite a bit more costly.

You're best bet is to take a printout of it, and any original design drawings, and snail mail it to yourself by REGISTERED MAIL (mail you have to sign for in order to get it). WHen you recieve it and sign for it, DON'T OPEN IT. LEave it closed, and keep it somewhere safe (to really make it believeable, put it in one of those security envelops that do something if they are opened). This way, if it ever comes to it that you have to have a legal battle over your right to its copyright, then you have a signed, sealed and delivered piece of proof showing that it is yours. Post offices keep permanent records of all registered mail, who it was sent to and who signed for it.

In the beginning, there was the word...and the word was 'God', although by the time it reached the other end of the phone line... the word was 'Gznd'
