Hello everyone.
I am fairly new at Photoshop but have been playing around with Paint Shop Pro for a couple years. What I want to know is how to make edges fade into the background. I know how to do the feathering...and I have searched tons of tutorials. I want the edges of my graphic to be curvy not straight....am I explaining this right.
Sort of like this http://vexiphne.net/stellar/
or like this http://www.netkitten.net

not entirely sure exactly what your asking ??

search for tuts on masks, alpha channels, and using the pen tool. Then spend perhaps 3 weeks practicing and experimenting with the afore mentioned. Rome was still not built in a day. Learning/practice time may bary depending on user

Like VP said.

The trick is to get the mask right. Once you have a basic understanding of masks and so on, do the following.

Get the image you want add a mask to it. Click on the mask to edit it directly. Now, get a feathered selection of your image, invert it, and fill with black. Now you have the appropriate parts masked out and you can mess with the gaussian blur filter and the levels to get the blending right. Remember, all these things are done to the mask directly.

Enjoy.

Welcome, Ro.

You can also select the portions to be faded, enter quickmask ( type Q ) adjust the gaussian blur til you like it. Exit quickmask, and apply layer mask.
The quickmask mode gives you a visual on the blur, so you can tell how fast it`s fading.

Play with it till you smile.

Why, yes. I was raised by Apes. How did you know ?

Masks are your friend, kat. You can change, reshape, reconfigure, add, subtract, bla, bla, bla and not touch the original. pretty cool stuff.
