I was wondering how would I make a few black and white photos look like they are taken from a home movie....like a home movie taken in the 60's. I need to know how to give it the film reel look where it has a tinge of yellow....where it look old and has burns marks and stuff..............?

This may be the overly obvious answer, but I would try adding a tinge of yellow( with an adjustment layer), maybe a slight gaussian blur, and some burns and scratches ( on a white layer set to screen with the burn tool set to low opacity)

Well here's an idea.

1. You need clear plastic, a heavy ziplock bag works well.
2. A heat source. I like a lighter or soldering iron.
3. Nail, knife or your favorite cat that likes to play with plastic.
4. A scanner or digital camera.

I. Give the plastic bag to your cat, or optionally scratch the plastic with the nail and stomp on it a few times. etc...

II. Next create some melted bits using the heat source. **

III. Scan the plastic bag, Retouch it to bring out the scatchs and dirt and burns etc.

IV. Load your black & white image, make sure it is converted to RGB or CYMK. Now copy your scan of the plastic bag to a new layer over the black & white image. Set that layer to hard light, softlight, or other blend mode untill you get the desired results.

V. No all you have to do is to add the yellowish tint. Create an adjustment layer an use curves or levels etc.... In RGB you will need to adjust the blue curve or level to increase yellow. I did this with a radial vignetted mask. So the yellow is lighter in the center and gets darker towards the edges.

I did this about 7 or 8 years ago on catalog cover and I worked slick and the cat enjoyed it as well.

Um, if you're burning/melting plastic, you'll probably want to leave a window open, as the fumes can make things... interesting...

Only thru my lineage. I was born in the US but my heart and sole is scottish. I take my middle name "Stuart" from my grand mothers maiden name. I love Scotland and anything scottish. Including Haggis. Yum. Yum. So most of my personal imaging and photography work revolves around scotland. A matter of fact I just got back last week from a 11day trip shoot photography around scotland. I have 400 shots to scan and edit.
