![]() Ok... some say that the file size is reduced if you hide all layers. This could not be true because the file size depends on the amount of data stored in the psd. So it shouldn't matter if you hide or show a layer |

![]() Yah, I just checked this out, and found what prompted that discussion. Here's what happens, the default save option has a few things turned 'on', one of them something like "save image thumbnail". It's kind of like saving the image twice sometimes, and if this is checked your file could be 50-100% *bigger*. If this option is checked and you "save thumbnail" with all the layers turned off, it will of course be a picture of nothing and so the file size gets smaller that way, too. |

![]() First off - it was I that said that the file sizes would be reduced if layers were hidden. |

![]() Actually, I got that report from someone else too, it seemed odd, but did work the first time I tried it. Still, it was a pain for me, not knowing which layers should turned 'on' or off, I typically have a few hidden layers for 'just in case', so it can be awkward to save in a way I wasn't needing next time around! I just checked this again on Windows with PS6, and I get the same results you did, with windows the saving from not saving the thumbnail is minor, much different from the mac, hmm... |

![]() My understanding of this, was that the file size with layers on is bigger due to the preview image, not the thumbnail image. (preview image is what shows up when the psd is placed into another program like quark) |

![]() Either way, the file size is reduced. So, it's a matter of what's more conveneint for you - making layers invisble each time or just setting your preferences to not save the preveiw..... |
