Just discovered a weird Photoshop 5.5 problem:

I have 2 layers which contains exactly the same (a small squared photo). I've added a 1px border layer to go around those layers. Now I wanna add an inside dropshadow on the top and bottom of the photo. I choose the 1st photolayer and choose "inner shadow" and sets the degree to 120. Choosing the 2nd photolayer I do exactly the same but change the degree to -60.

Result: the 1st photolayer inherits the new setting of the 2nd photolayer?!?!? How can that be?

Well - kinda solved it but the bug still remains somehow.

I made a copy-merged of the photo twice and pasted them into two layers seperately - worked!

However, if i make one layer only....and copy that layer into a new one. THEN it inherits the setttings....strange.

Are you using layer effects? Did you uncheck the "Global Angle" Setting?

I'm betting it was the global angle setting. I did the same thing once upon a time. If the global angle box is checked, it will apply that angle to all layer effects.

Aaaah...did you copy the layer...or clone it?

Yep it was the global angle thingy. But still...copying a layer makes the new layer inherit the effects on the first layer - even if i try unchecking the global angle. :/

Just copy the layer before you apply any layer effects.
