Random stuff/pictures/text dropped on a canvas, with some jaggy/grunge effect added, in cyan/blue. Not exactly my cup of tea.

hmmmm I think it needs more.

That type of style... you can never have enough. Like when you think you're finished...do more and watch it come to life

Dingoman18: Nice to see you are still here!! I just get a page not found error from this and the link in the other forum (after refreshing). I suspect it may be something to do with Geocities so you might want to look at grabbing some space elsewhere!!

Well it's a good idea.

It lacks some effort, is pretty jaggy and compressed horribly. It needs order; You have battery symbols and digital camera symbols but then an altimeter? I don't even know what that big blue thing is.

I do like the background of the image but the image itself isn't a great size for wallpaper use. Try to stick to the standards like 800x600, 1024x768......

Keep on working at it.

It was made more with the idea of being like a splash page, not a background. It is probably compressed bad, because I dont really know how to compress good... lol.
Umm the symbols just tie in with the whole digital thing I guess. THe big blue thing is just like abstracty, its not supposed to be anything persay... does it have to be?

It's a definite improvement over the other one. The simple blue color is nice, and the content is interesting... the jaggies are distracting though, and some of the text looks kinda mashed.

I'll agree that there is some improvement over the previous posting.

However, to be remotely useful on a webpage it needs a lot -

For starters, like mahjqa said, there's just random objects dropped randomly on the page. There's no coherency whatsover...leaves you to ask what the hell am I looking at??

2nd - the whole digital theme has been done o death. That doesn't mean it can't still be used effectively, but it's hard to produce anything original.

3rd - the big blue thing. No, it doesn't have to 'be' something in particular, but it does need to look like it belongs. There's a simple rule in this type of design - if it has no reason to be there, don't put it there.

To sum up:

Select the inserted iamges carefully, using ones that have a purpose or help pull together the theme.

Place them logically or at least in an eyepleasing manner.

Avoid duplicating cheesy effects for the sake of having cheesy effects.

clarify.

IMHO, as a splash page, it`s either too tall and/or too narrow. Lots of people still use 800x600 as a screen res, so if compatibility is an issue, you should start there. And even at this compression rate, it`s rather large at 86K.
On the image itself, the chaotic/disorder kinda thing`s just not something I like , personally. There is the beginings of a theme ( photography, right ? ) so maybe if you concentrate on that, and bring it to the front a bit, it would make more sense.
I also have a problem with tiny unreadable text. Just don`t get the point...
As balance goes, it`s heavy in the upper left, and light in the lower right.
As icons go, they are mostly supposed to be familair things to help users feel comfortable. Sorry but the ones you used don`t mean anything to this old man.

I suppose I have to agree with whats been said so far.

There seems to be no purpose to the arrangement of the items in your splash. You should take more care in selecting the elements to include in your images. The text in your 'brackets' is unreadable. You should pick a better font that looks good in smaller sizes and increase the size. Mark has a decent tutorial over at DBM. You should read through there. It also wouldn't hurt to check out some of the other tutorials on his site.

You seem to be going with the 'grunge' theme. This is a good start. I would check out Wasted Youth's tutorials for some help in the grunge stylings.

Also your choice of colors could be improved. Colors of the Web is probably one of the best resources around the net. Simply choose the color wizard and give the wizard your hex number.

You have a good start but the image can use some work. Its a good first step but I think you ready to take the next step.
