Someone emailed me to ask how I make the emeralds on my site, and I made him a little tutorial on how to do the basics... I thought it might be useful to post it here. I am aware that we've had some gem threads a while back, but I can't seem to find them. So, anyway:

And yes, I've asked him to join... so maybe he'll pop in and say hi.

And off course, if you've got comments/suggestions/tips feel free to add them.

(almost forgot to mentio'm the doc's tutorial at http://www.handson.nu/HTML/glass/ .)

Thanks Mahjqua but I am already a member. I hang more at Eyeball design so I didn't recognize your name but a friend linked to your work and well here I am. I've been doing Aqua and Some glass buttons but hadn't seen quite the effect you had and as with most good effects I had hoped you had a nice technique for easily repeating it. Thanks for your e-mail reply as well.

@mahjqa: why don't you post your wonderful
tuts on the GurusNetwork??

They're more than helpful...

Yeah Mahjqa, why not submit these to Gurus? They are really helpful and now you have this one and the fire tut. By the looks of it you already have them done and you would just need to format it like the Gurus site and you'd be done.

While the gems on your site are quite nice, and tutorial submission to the Gurus Network would be a good idea for this, I can't help but notice that the finished product in the tutorial doesn't look like the finished product on your page

Yes it looks a little different but I wouuld say that that is a matter of the finishing touches. This is a baseline. I almost never use tuts exactly as written. I want to feeel that it is my work. I can however see that this is how he made his and the built on it from there. Some Skeins in the light half and a little more screen on the upper accents.

I should say that I have been talking to mahjqa about submitting the animated fire tutorial to the GN (its one of those inspirational tutorials that is just too good not to try) once he has time and once mahjqa gets a taste for it who knows what may happen???

I hope this takes some of the heat (sorry about the pun) off mahjqa as it seems like a couple of people a day bring the topic up!!!
